I've tried countless times to make a tumblr, but I honestly just don't understand how to use it... :( what is the point to tumblr, if any? Do you just follow blogs you like and reblog photos?

Tumblr isn't really what people say it is. There's actually tons of drama, hate between fan bases, but just as long as you stay away from drama, there will be none. You follow blogs that you like and reblog posts from them so you can put them onto your blog. People will check out your blog this way with similar tastes and yeah... haha.
"Tumblr is a place where you reblog images to express how you feel or anything you want from cookies, to dogs, to weather related or anything! "Reblogging" is where you add a photo to your Tumblr page (ex: iamthebest.tumblr.com) others can see the photo when they go to your Tumblr page or on the dashboard. The "dashboard" is similar to Facebook "home or newsfeed." Where you would see photos others reblogged on their page and notes and yours too.
Oh okay, now to edit your Tumblr theme, or to keep a style for your Tumblr, you can search up "tumblr htmls or tumblr templates" on Google and you can download or find HTML codes in Google. Some installations for templates/themes/layouts will automatically install for you but for some you have to paste the HTML code. To edit your page, you go to your Tumblr (ex: iamthebest.tumblr.com) on the top right corner it will say customize. When you see it you can play around with things, and then you will see edit HTML. Now when you first start Tumblr, there's a HTML already set for the beginner's template. You can copy the HTML from the website you found and paste it in the HTML slot. Do not but two HTMLs together because it wouldn't show the layout you want. When you are done just click save on the top and done!
You can add a playlist to your page so when people check it out, music will start playing. To do that, create an account on "hypster.com" make a playlist. You then add some songs and when you are done, go to your account and on the bottom right it will say player skins and then click on the tape image where theres a description that says embed this to your website...etc.
Once you get your html, you copy and paste it to your HTML slot. Now when adding a playlist, do not delete the HTML layout/theme/template code you had before to the HTML for the playlist. Scroll down all the way to the bottom (remember to leave the HTML) and just add the HTML code for the playlist to the bottom. So now you have both the template code and the playlist code. If you want the playlist to autoplay (like play automatically when someone goes on your Tumblr follow this:
':{'autostart':'false','shuffle':'false...
You see where it says autostart 'false', to make it autoplay you change 'false' to 'true'.
And you're done!
Have fun with your Tumblr, play around with it!"

Yeah, you follow blogs of your interest and then either make your own posts or like and/or reblog other posts.

Follow blogs you like, reblog/like stuff you like, post your own things if you'd like.
There IS a lot of drama but it's easily avoided by following the right people.
ok, ill warn you, you WILL get pornographic images on your dashboard. You can avoid this by blacklisting the tag "nsfw" and all other drama you don't want.

It's really a matter of following blogs you like, creating your own blog, reblogging their posts if they have great quality, posting your own posts, obsessing over countless things, posting random gifs. I created like three blogs before I made another one and got the hang of it.

I LOVE TUMBLR!!! i usually reblog stuff, i mean like, blogging is just like clicking a button. For some reason clicking "like" and "reblog" is really addicting, and its really hard to explain why.

What the hell is a Tumblr? Forums are the farthest I delve into social media, because any farther and I'm likely to get hurt.

I use it because I follow blogs about stuff I like, and I meet really cool people in other countries, and find beautiful art, and clever things, and adorable animals, and deep quotes, and all sorts of neat stuff that's too personal to share with all of my "friends" on facebook.

Honestly, when it comes to me and Tumblr, I just use the site to find pictures describing how I feel at that moment and it just feels good to find pics that can show how I am at the given time. My blog is totally bi-polar. It goes from romantic, to sad, to totally mad, and re-cycles a lot.

At first I too was really confused on what tumblr was. I tried making one a couple of times but I found it really confusing and hard. Finally, I made one and then I tried learning what it was all about. You should look at videos. Anyways, tumblr is basically like a blogging site and all. Since you just made one and have no one to follow, just search up tags/posts on what you are interested in. You can see who posted the picture or post and you can follow them if you like their blog. Ex: If you are really into a game, you can search it up. You find someone's account and follow them since their tumblr is basically about games. You can also, reblog the post. Reblogging the post will give you a chance on getting more followers. So basically when you get a tumblr, make sure to start finding blogs and pictures that you like. Other than that tumblr is really great for photography. If I ever had an assignment involving pictures, I would always open up tumblr. Great help. On the other hand, tumblr is a great and safe enviornment. I like the fact that instead of messaging people, you ask them questions on their ask box or they can ask you. They have the option to ask annonomously, too. If you dont want to get questions, you can disable that feature. Also, tumblr is really fun. You can add music to your blog, and a great layout. Again, just look at videos involving it. Tumblr is actually really great. I think you should get it.

Well, I guess you could just reblog a lot of posts, but a good deal of it can depend on you making your own posts, as well. In many senses Tumblr is a "more social" blogging platform than others (WordPress, Blogger, etc.) because it allows you to reblog and like, just like on Facebook and Twitter. However, I do think that most people on Twitter should actually make more posts instead of reblogging the things they like. Otherwise... well, they're just a mix of other people's thoughts! A unique mix, but a mix nonetheless...
