It ticks my buttons knowing well my younger sister gets everything before I did at her age. She got a cellphone at 13 just because I got one at 16 when I was finally allowed to get one. Now I'm just being allowed to go to drivers ed and almost 18 and my sister will get her license soon when she turns 16. Why does this happen?

No clue. I think it's because parents maybe feel guilty after raising the first child so they coddle the second?

Because younger sibling usually whine all the time to get things and get on their parents nervs to get what they want

You are their first child and raising a kid must have been new to them. So what you childhood's been like was the result of their best efforts. Your sister is being brought up be slightly more experienced parents. SO when she's got a phone earlier in her life than you got in yours, there a big chance it's because you showed great responsibility around your phone.
Its your (positive) fault she has opportunities, cause you're a good sun

Maybe being the first child, your parents kinda wanted to hold you back; make sure you didn't grow up too fast...

Also, since technology (cell phones) now is cheaper and more readily-available, maybe that's why they allowed your sister to get it at a younger age. I didn't get a phone until I turned 17 (I had to buy it myself and pay my own service, too), while my parents BOUGHT a phone for my sister at 13 and paid her service.

This too. Times change. Time favours younger siblings. You parents don't

I have an older sister but I've never felt like I've been greatly favored as younger brother. All I get from it is her as my babysitter (baths galore, no video games and occasional makeup slathered on me :( ) when I was younger and a bossy older girl. Not fun.

IT SUCKS BEING THE LITTLE BROTHER TOO
You're treated lyk a baby
For instance, if I fall a sleep on the sofa my mom always used to take my pants off leaving me in my briefs. Even in my cousins' place..In front of my sis (6 yrs older) + girl cousins (all older)!!!
This happen until I was 14 years old!!!. It is pretty embarrassing to wake up all undressed in front of your sis + girl cousins even tho they are in 20s

I love being the older sibling. My parents trust me the most and so I'm able to do a lot more than my siblings.

The younger silbling is of much more importance, that is why older siblings get treated last.
Same story here.

My parents do the same thing. I've called them out on it a few times and they actually gave me an honest answer. What they said was that I was their test on how to raise a kid. They realized that me getting a phone at age 13 and being able to play M rated games and watching R movies at age 12 was delayed so they let my little bro do all those things when he was like 10.

In short, you and I and all the other older siblings are the guinea pigs.

For me, being the oldest sibling has been a nightmare. With all of my mental illnesses and horrible qualities, I set a horrible example for my little sisters. It breaks my heart knowing that.

Well , I never had chance to experience that feel , but I think that it is horrible ... Anyway , my parents have 2 children , me and my elder sister , so , I always loved feel being youngest child in family , especially when I was little , I liked to unnerve my elder sister , I still like to do it sometimes , so I got nickname from her - " Dennis the menace " ( irony is that my real name is Dennis ) xD ... Anyway , I know that parents are always more liberate to younger children , especially in my family because I am boy , and Montenegrins like male children more than female ... I feel bad these days because my sister is going on University in other city , so I will be alone without anyone to irritate xD ....

I guess, after reading all the posts, my brother and I are very lucky. I am 16 months older but we are treated almost the same. Driving off the farm is the biggest different thing, because of laws. We are best friends-we live on a farm and close neighbor with kids our age are about 6 miles away-and enjoy doing things together. We both got cell phones-dumb phones-at the same time but they are worthless for any thing but talking. I got a jeep when I was 16 and my brother got a pick up when he turned 16. I like being the older brother and I asked him if it was a pain in the ass to be the younger brother and said no. So I guess we are very lucky.

Make the rules, ha! You see what kills me though is my parents treat my younger sister like the oldest, always giving her more freedom and responsibility. When I turn 18 this October they can't stop me from leaving though. I do plan on going to college just in case some people are worried that I haven't a life plan.
