Who's with me that not having your license sucks. I'm almost 18 have been to drivers ed and paid but no one wants to call me back to schedule my driving lessons. I've been waiting a month.

I can't go anywhere or do anything and I learned very quickly your friends who have their license don't want to drive you everywhere you want to go. So I'm stuck at my house, everyday doing nothing but sitting on the couch. Once I get my license so many places I want to go

Such as my state house, Protests and rallies, go hiking up the mountains, learn to kayak, drive myself to concerts, drive myself every night to take picture of the stars on this mountain I go to, stay till the morning and drive home, drive myself to get ice cream when no one else want to. Drive myself out to dinner when no one else will. all these things I would love to do but can't. And let me say your parents don't want to drive you everywhere and probably won't.

Reason I still don't have my license is parents not allowing me to get it till now. When I turn 18, can i still apply for the drivers ed discount on my insurance.

Please anyone who is going through the same thing please share your frustration. Your life doesn't start until you have a license and a job. Peace!

I agree that it sucks that I can't get away from my parents without doing long intervals of strenuous and sweaty exercise, called biking, but getting my license would open up a whole new world of trouble and responsibility, opportunities and trouble. Basically a car is a speeding metal death casket. Because you could be doing everything right, but when some moron answering a text comes speeding at you at 50 MPH, it ain't gonna end well.

You think a car is bad, I was thinkin of getting a motorcycle. Its a big misconception that motorcycles are more dangerous than cars. In fact you brake a lot faster in a bike than any car. If you get in an accident you jump off sliding across the ground. Kind of like if there were an eject button. Plus bikes are much cheaper than cars, insurance is cheaper, gas is cheaper due to more mpg, is just awesome. Problem though if you live in New England like me your screwed in the winter.

Before you know it probably next month or a little longer I'll have my car license. Although no car. Just using my parents for now. Definitely buying my own bike before i buy my own car.

I can't wait to get my license and a job for that matter. Having money and being able to go places is just gonna be fucking awesome. Protests, concerts, rallies, camping, just getting away from everything for a while, it'll be great.

Oh tell me about it. Just sick of getting into fights whenever I want to go somewhere, it always turns into a huge thing that gets blown out of proportion. Imagine just saying I feel like going to Boston today, or I feel like going quarry jumping today. Not blaming my parents its just parents aren't usually the drop everything and go do something crazy and fun type. All I know is I'm never getting a 9-5 office job, no way. I really don't know how people do it. I can't keep a schedule because I never know what I'm going to do next. Thats the kind of life I lead. Freedom of the road is freedom to life.

My parents wouldn't let me get my license until I was 18... I guess it was sort of a good thing, as I got almost a whole extra year of experience under my belt- driving with naggy parents teaches you to really drive properly. :P But I had to buy my own car (with cash) because there was no way either of my parents would buy me a car, let alone let me use one of their cars.

Yeah.... I know what you mean ... Id love to get out my house and just go for a drive to clear my head whatnot and see friends alot of that but I also think about gas, and money, and insurance, and all the little things that come with owning a car ( assuming you have one at your disposal ). I do have a vehicle that I've been given ( my 1989 Plymouth Grand Voyager SE but it needs ALOT of work that can't go undone forever, I also have to get a job to be able to pay for gas for it ( although it gets 32 hwy 28 city believe it or not ) and insurance is gonna be sky high and, parts for said vehicle and installation .... It makes me kinda glad im not driving at the moment in a way to. I can be a "little" kid for a little bit longer before I have to grow up and start driving ( family health reasons ). Id love to get out of the house and do but I can't at the moment and Im okay with that cause eventually I will.

Im also glad we have to get learners permits ( in the US at least ) before we can get our drivers license so it gives us a year to learn to drive & get some practice behind our belts :)

It sucks a bit less for me since I got out of the frat, but still sucks. My parents refuse to finance a driver's license for me because they'll never let me drive their car or buy me a vehicle.

It would help a lot since I would be able to drive others' cars, but eh. Might as well reach my mid 20's w/o a license.

I can't legally get a driver's license yet but living in the middle of no where, it's quite inconvenient not having one.

I fucking hate not having my license. I hate having to ask my mom for rides and stuff because I feel like I'm bothering her, but she doesn't think I need a license right now. I just want a bit of independence.

Where I live, a license isn't really needed, but rather just a bicycle. I am getting my permit soon though...

I still need to drive for another 20 hours(California law says you need to drive at least 40 hours with a parent after getting your permit). Unfortunately, due to procrastination, my permit expired last week, and I'll need to do that test again. :whoops:

no one wants to call me back to schedule my driving lessons. I've been waiting a month.

There's your problem. You must take initiative and call your driving school! In fact, they're probably waiting for you to call, as they can't guess when you'll be able to answer the phone.

I own a motorcycle now and its far superior to a car, much more fun, and yes, provided you ride carefully they are fairly safe, but not so much as a car still. I've been in multiple smashes, some my fault, some not, and the only bad things that happened was I got some decent battle scars on my leg, but that ain't really to bad a thing.
And yes, braking is faster, but so is acceleration so don't go wild. Anyway, whatever sort of bike you get good luck and ride safe, and for fuck sake please don't be the dick who doesn't wave back, the biker wave is sacred, don't abandon it.

I've been to drivers ed and have taken the driving lessons, however I have not been to get my license yet because I need to have glasses to be able to drive and I haven't gone to get my (probably) 76th pair yet. I lose and break so many glasses.

Yes, using our 1st amendment rights to tell our shitty government how shitty of a job it's doing I'd a horrible idea. I should just stay here and watch TV and buy shitty plastic shit om the internet.

im not saying protests are bad im saying the huge gathering protests are trouble. you never know when someone will flip shit and all hell breaks loose

Same thing on a bike though. I'm only 14 yet and my bike is my car so I ride from my house to town and back at least 4x per week, 10 miles one way on winding dirt roads. One text could really put some bones where they don't belong.

Haha, after reading all the posts glad I'm not the only one who feels this way. But totally not gonna be that dick who doesn't wave back. Just found out I might not have my license before I turn 18. All driving lessons are booked, it's insane. Anyhow CrazyPerson101 I do not have a car at my disposal. Was going to be using my parents rides until I buy a bike or a car. Only problem is I probably live in the worst place of the country to own a bike. North North New England. Anybody got advice on riding bikes in the snow.

I'm 19 and still w/o my license :-) I hate it so much I don't even have my permit yet and my mom refuses to teach me which is so completely stupid... I gotta figure out a way to learn and practice and then I need to get a car which is so much money???

Please stay on topic. I have deleted off topic posts.

Having a car is great. But you have to have a job to be able to pay for gas/the car. So having a job + a car is pretty great.

I just got my permit renewed today, so it's good for another year. Hopefully by then I'll have gotten the required number of hours to take the license test.
Procrastination is bad, people! It costs you $33 and two and a half hours in California!

Those bastards at the DMV, though. Made me wait for two and a half goddamn hours, even though they said it would only be "an hour or so".
We even got there early, in the hopes that doing so would eliminate the wait.
For once a government organization had some good advice: call in and schedule an appointment. Some people really did only have to wait 15 minutes.
