The police in the UK have started putting adds on piracy sites telling people to leave them imediatly as a deterant:

To me this seems stupid, the adds wouldnt deter me, and they are just supporting the site by paying to have an add placed there, but thats just me.

What do you think of them?

Oooooo so scary~!

Seriously? I don't know what's worse. Brazilian messages like "you wouldn't rob a handbag, you wouldn't rob a car, don't pirate", the republican ad on the PirateBay, or this. Do they really think anyone takes advertising seriously today?

The only good way against this is to go actively against piracy banning users from internet providers if they are caught d/ling or u/ling copyrighted material. One slip and you might be over.

EDIT: It gets worse and worse just by thinking about it.

and they are just supporting the site by paying to have an add placed there What? :lol3: I can't belive they're that smart to support the wrong doers and/or putting an advertising company out of business. Congratulations, UK.

I could understand if this campaign were against YouTube movies/music, because a lot of everyday people actually don't know that it's wrong or that it isn't less wrong than other forms of piracy.

Also, it just struck me: who the hell even sees ads anymore, since freaking ADBLOCKERS exist?

That won't stop me. I need my ROMS and my YGO episodes. I draw the line at music though; musicians need their albums to be sold in order to support themselves financially.

I think it's ridiculous. People will continue to use the sites or find other torrents. Illegal content removed ~Typhlosion

I dont think they are gonna work since its like blocking websites, people will find ways to get around it. The pirate sites will probably find other ways to get profit, and the users will just disregard the ads (as they always have).

Even more reason to get my adblocker back on this new laptop if I read this right...
