Hey!
I want to get in shape, and learn to fight in the same time.
I am very unfit, and I can't fight very well...
Will Krav Maga do for me? What should I buy? What body part protectors should I buy?
Thanks for all advice!

Krav Maga is a pretty physically demanding activity and is something I still can have a hard time with, and I've been active in martial arts and boxing for years.
If I were you, I would start with something more simple. Sign up at a boxing gym to get in shape, and when it comes to self defense and fighting it's the best way to start out for beginners. You learn the basics.

learn krav maga if you wanna kick people in the nuts and stab them with makeshift weapons. personally i think boxing or kickboxing is more applicable if you're not looking to murder everyone that tries to fight you or fight off a gang of ninjas. you might want to go with a grappling art like bjj or wrestling too because it helps to know how to fight on the ground

Thank you for both advices!
I'm looking for something, that easily brings the attacker down, and that's all. I live in a bad neighbourhood.
Kicking people in the nuts is th last chance IMHO :D

Brazilian jiu-jitsu or mixed martial arts are much better alternatives for beginners than the very demanding Krav Maga...

Well Krav is intended to be easy to learn for anyone because of the limited time military personel have to learn it. You won't start out with anything really crazy, just how to stand, kick, punch, and block, like any other martial art. It is physically demanding, but the more demanding it is the more quickly you will improve. As far as body protectors, you should have at least a groin cup, heavy duty Muay Thai style shingaurds, and a mouth guard. Of course your instructors can suggest other things depending on their style of teaching. When you are looking for schools, avoid 'mcdojos' (make sure they are affiliated with a legit organization like IKMF, KMG, KMW) and make sure some form of sparring is used in the curriculum. Krav will cover every scenario, including groundwork, but because it covers everything, you won't go into the same level of focus as BJJ, I train both because I am paranoid.

Krav Maga is an excellent way to learn self defense. Very effective and efficient, and it doesn't take too long to learn. It is very demanding though, so you might want to start hitting the gym or training in a slightly less demanding martial art first. Before you join any dojo look up their credentials and make sure they know what they're doing.
