Because I go to a charter school, I am forced to ride the shuttle bus, and on the shuttle bus, gay is the most used word by far. It annoys the hell out of me that these people are all calling each other gay, when I know what it means to be gay. Does anyone else feel this way?

tbh it bothers me sometimes and sometimes it doesn't. If one of my friends is like 'ah this is so gay' (if something bad happens) I'm ok with it because I get that people have just replaced it with another word.
what really gets on my word is when people say as a joke 'oh you're such a faggot' just because a guy either expressed his emotions or says something thoughtful. The most depressing thing is that as someone who is gay you get use to it so quickly

that word doesn't bother me depending on how it's said there's a lot worse things used to describe gays

My brothers use it. It's annoying to me but I'm not as bothered by it as my sister. I have overheard her saying something along the lines of "one of the biggest parts of my identity is an insult to them" when speaking to my mom about my brother's use of the word gay. What bothers me about when he uses it is that he's been told multiple times that using it as an insult makes her uncomfortable and upset but he still uses it because he doesn't care apparently.

My friends and I all use it. We never really mean anything bad by it, I suppose it's just in our vocabulary. But we don't specifically use "gay" or "faggot", we normally just call each other whatever insult we can think of towards each other, because I suppose that's how our friendship is with each other. Call me closed minded, but it's simply how we behave. Now do we actually hate gay people? Well, for the most part, no. It's simply another word in our arsenal.
People seriously have to get over being so hypersensitive about everything.

When the the word 'gay' is ment in the context that something is gay, then I have no problem with it really, personally. When it's used, along with other words, to put people down or to discriminate, then I don't like it. That being said, I can understand how homosexual people could possibly be offended by that and I get that. But I've also heard an openly gay person I work with say 'that's so gay'. So I think it comes down to being respectful of people's thoughts and feelings. If they are offended, then don't say it, if they don't care then so be it.

It doesn't really make me mad, because I know they aren't trying to use the word in an offending way. They are using it as stupid, and don't mean anything by it, but if they are actually talking about gay as in homosexual, and say something like your so gay that's not okay.

Yeah, I don't think most people who use gay or fag as an insult actually intend to disrespect gay people, but it's still offensive. Reminds me of that one south park episode where they redefined faggot to mean "a loud, annoying, obnoxious Harley rider"

I get so pissed off when they do that. Actually, once I got in a fight over it and the teacher gave me detention because he was saying that, and I quote, "it's a perfect use of the word, seeing as how those homosexuals are flexible. The word can be used for stupid, ugly, poor, a failure, as well as something bad, all of which those homosexuals are."
Long story short, I got kicked out of the school and the teacher got in no trouble whatsoever, and a few other students got suspension and detention because of the big bad war that started in the school due to what he said.

I don't like it at all. My cousin went through a year or two where he called everything negative gay and it did really get to me. I find it incredibly annoying and ignorant.

I can see how it might be annoying, but honestly, I see it as just a harmless word in the teenage jargon. Usually no harm is intended by it.

That's not the point. just because no harm was intended, doesn't mean no harm was done. It's possible for some kids growing up to this, to associate gay, as bad. And for some gay people, it's quite offensive. It isn't to me, but I do find Fa**ot offensive.

My friends still use it quite a lot, they usually apologise thinking it really offends me but I don't mind really, doesn't bother me. I know they aren't homophobic so it doesn't bother me at all.
