First, you need to get out there and socialise with these people. You never get anywhere if you don't talk to them in some way, even if it's over facebook, text or any other means of contact. Nowadays, there are so many ways to start a conversation with someone that you don't even need to approach them literally. You need to start working on your confidence and push yourself out of the comfort zone you're used to for anything to work. What is it that you feel is stopping you approaching them? Once you know that, you know you can work on changing what it is that's stopping you and work from there on the whole approaching thing.
