I was watching some porn (yes, that's what I do), and a popup appeared saying the FBI has put a block on my computer for safety reasons. Is this real? It wasn't pedophilic or bestial, it was perfectly legal porn.

HELP!

That's weird but it may be some kind of security thing on the computer

Probably an ad. Adblock has been known to not work.

Could be a virus uhm or a parent protecting sofware.

My parents don't know anything about blocks, or even porn, really.

If they are asking you for money, then it's a scam. Don't send the money. The FBI does not ask for money like that. The lockers may or may not release your computer if you send money. When It happen to me they told me to get a money order from a list of stores and then put the money order number in a box on the page. There was also was a clock that counted down from 48 hrs and when it reached 0, I would be arrested. Well it restarted back to 48 hrs every time I turned the comp off and never reach 0. Also the court I would be charged in was the Supreme Court of Europe. Read the fine print and think about what you got. If it was my block, then you will see things don't add up. Take it to a comp expert or you talk to the comp expert to see what needs to be done. The first time I took it to Best Buy to clean. No I have webroot and it does the job. Good luck

It's bullshit. If you violated something, there'd be a knock at your door, not a message popup.

Maybe some malware. Use McAfee to see if there any malware problems with your PC. Also, try running your antivirus.

The only three sites I saw with the FBI was MegaUpload, some silly bait site and the FBI site itself. I find this really unlikely to be the real FBI. Or maybe... the NSA!

It's not any government. Think about it: they have far more efficient* means of getting at you without having to resort to pop-up ads and scam tactics.

Nay, you are a victim of yet another guilt-inducing scam. This usually takes one of two forms:

A web browser pop-up window displaying a page that has some official-sounding message. Because it is merely a web page, treat it like any other and use critical analysis to determine its authenticity. It is a harmless but convincing mechanism to the untrained eye. Your computer is not affected until you follow the imperatives and download software or call a number listed.
You have already been infected by some malware. They probably want your money. Deny them this, and research some keywords in the ransom note. Usually this takes the form of a threat that, unless they receive payment soon by an unusual means, you will be arrested.
Purchase and install a commercially-available virus scanner and remover. I recommend "Kaspersky Pure", which is one of several virus scanners that allows you to create a CD from which you can start and disinfect a virus-infested computer.

Had you been suspected of a crime, you would have been notified by some unfriendly visitors at your door, bearing unpleasant news and handcuffs.

* An "efficient government" is, alas, a paradox in practice. In this case, I mean more likely to guarantee a favourable outcome for the aforementioned.

I have torrented something before (not porn thought) and I got the same messege... I think it had like a picture crime scene tape and saying to pay them using GreenDot MoneyPak... If that's the case its a scam... Just boot up in safe mode if your on a PC

I'd say it was just an ad wanting you to click it.

It's fake, probably a scam. Disregard it.
