The actual reason is because your body needs to circulate blood and when you don't have a boner there is very little circulation in the penis so you are at risk of a blood clot, so a boner a day will keep the doctor away. Also you don't constantly have a boner through the whole night when you sleep because if you have a boner for more than 4 hours they you are also at risk of a blood clot; so through the night you get a boner then lose it multiple times. Some times you wake up during the boner and sometimes you don't.
