Ok for some reason my laptop won't charge when I have it plugged into the mains. I only noticed now, because I have had it plugged in all day and when I unplug it I am being told I have 9% on my battery? Any ideas you people ok the tech-know-how?

check the fuse on the plug....might have blown. (so in other words) replace the fuse.

You need a new battery alex

Laptop batties usually only last a year or two, and the unlucky ones only six months. You have to 'look after' them if you want them to last, meaning charging it and completely discharging it once a week, and when it's fully charged, take the battery out if you're using the power supply. But you can find out all that kinda stuff on the interwebs if you're bothered. This (clicky) (http://www.laptopshop.co.uk/dell-latitude_d520-laptop_battery-47936-3-b9.htm) is about the cheapest I could find, but shop around as you might find a good deal.

This laptop is about 18 months old and I still get 2 hours out of the battery with all settings on full, get 4-5 hours with screen and CPU turned down. Everything else had been replaced though lol, HDD, mobo, touchpad, screen..

You think its just a case of its not holding a charge? Just the light that usually pops on when it is off and says its charging isn't on anymore.
Dam bank holiday weekend wont get it sorted till Tuesday. Grrrrrrr.

Was it charging just fine up until then? Was the battery lasting a while consistently up until just suddenly?
It's possible that the battery may just need to be pulled out and put back in. Sometimes they develop a bad connection between the metal connections between the battery and the computer itself, and it won't charge anymore. I've seen it happen more than once. You pop the battery out, and put it back in, and it works just fine again.
Obviously the battery could just be going bad, but it's worth a try, because it happens.

Crazy, this morning still wouldn't charge then all of a sudden, started charging. So it looks like things are ok again.
Thanks everyone for your help. :)
