View Full Version : Hatred of Birthdays

For a while now, I've hated my birthday. Probably because I'm forced to celebrate it, and I hate getting a lot of attention with my family calling every hour and sending me cards. Also, ever since my parents split up, they've yelled at each other and played tug-of-war over me to see which of them got to spend the day with me. So this year on my birthday, I left home without telling anyone where I was going until I texted my mom that I was going to a friend's house until my birthday was over. I ignored my entire family because I wanted to be alone on my birthday. I also ignored my friends. Does this make me a bad person because I hate birthdays and don't want to spend them with my family? My family always annoys me, I just never tell them. My mom has been mad at me for a while about it, my grandparents continue to lecture me about it, and my cousins think it's funny to judge me for it. Was it wrong of me to "run away" like that and ignore everyone on MY birthday?

If a person wants to be left alone, they should be able to be left alone with no conciquences (i rly feel like i spelt that wrong)

It is your choice really on how you want to spend your bday. Even though it is slightly odd (wanting to be alone on that day), they should respect it. And considering that they annoy you, the desire to be left alone isn't surprising

While you shouldn't expect to be respected for it, you should at the very least, be allowed to do it. I mean, of they're annoying you, then you should be granted some alone time.

Lol, I though I was the only one who hated birthdays. You're not a bad person, you should be allowed to go anywhere you want, especially on your birthday, and spent it however you want.

I don't think birthdays are that big of a deal, I usually just have a family dinner at a decent restaurant, get some money and small gifts, and maybe hang out with a few friends. If you don't want to celebrate it, you shouldn't have to.

I dislike my own birthday, having some cash is nice but i dislike people caring about it or anything like that, for my birthdays I insist they do nothing, and that if they insist on giving gifts then its to be nothing more than a small amount of money. I cant stand having a hole day where people are socially obligated to give me attention.
However, when it comes to other people I'm more than happy to celebrate there birthday.
