Sound issue.

Okay so, I got on my comp this morning, only to realise the sound is not working and nothing is playing ANY of my media files. I downloaded updates, restarted my comp about 7 times, deleted about half my software, thinking it may be a software problem, but no.
I'm using Windows Vista, btw. Any ideas on what's up? I seriously have no idea.

This might sound obvious but... did you check your volume settings -- the system's volume control and any physical knobs? If you have some external speakers, check for loose wires there, too.

Now that's out of the way... check Vista's sound settings. Scan for viruses and malware. Also try taking a look at the device manager and see if anything is wrong for sounds there.

Are they plugged in? They could have been pulled out accidentally. also check if you're speakers use it, check that they're plugged into power, maybe plug them into an ipo/mp3 player to check they work properly.
