Last year I partially tore a muscle in my back and even after it had healed I was left with terrible burning pain in my shoulder. After months of immobilization and steroid injections it finally went away and I have almost full range of motion in my arm. four weeks ago monday my friend stepped on my foot when I helped her off the couch. It didn't hurt that much but my foot swelled up huge and was really bruised. About a week later i was in terrible pain and unable to walk or move my foot. I still have the swelling and pain and cannot walk. It feels like there is fire in my blood but ice on my skin. I was diagnosed with CRPS wednesday and it's not a good diagnosis. I was wondering if anyone has gone through a similar experience or could just provide some support I have no clue when or if I'll get better.

[for those who don't know, crps = Complex regional pain syndrome]

I was diagnosed CRPS type 1 (RND/AMPS) in spring 2010. My pain areas are generally my feet and my arms/shoulders/fingers. It's one of the most awful diagnoses, due in part that there's no real cure.

From another pain person to another, I really hope yours begins to feel better.

Physical therapy!!!! Honestly, I had to do six plus months of INTENSE PT to get any relief at all. I went give days per week for give hours everyday. I have CRPS. It affects my whole left side: leg, arm, back, and neck. Also, if PT doesn't help (you have to work really, really hard and stick with it for a while), then sometimes (as with me) a doctor might be willing to place an epidural in to reduce the pain so I could "get ahead of the pain". For me the did an epidural then did a strict regime of PT.
Avoid surgery/injections/etc as these can cause the pain to flare up. If you have questions please ask me!
For anyone who has CRPS, I would recommend a book called Complex Regional Pain Syndrome for Teenagers by Teenagers
