Hello. I have worked at an amusement park for a little over a year. I worked last summer, last winter, spring break, and shall continue working there for this summer. I am happy that my first job is one that I like very much. I am very good at guest services and being a ride operator. As an employee I have many privileges like special events and seeing celebrities often. At this point I am eligible for a promotion and another raise. Sure there are troubles here and there, but not everybody looks forward to going to work because they enjoy it.

I was wondering whether or not it will be a good idea to make a career out of this. Some older people have made careers of working at amusement parks. Should I finish school and just stay here?

Ask yourself: Are you still going to be happy doing this in your 30's or 40's?

Of course I will be because it is world famous and I am a part of something big. Then again I might need more money to send my children to college haha

How much do you earn a hour?

There's this one amusement "park" if you will that I would love to work at, but it's only minimum wage. Depending on where you live and what your financial situation is, it might be better to look for a different job that pays higher. I can tell you right know that if you do choose to live off minimum wage, it's not going to get you by (if at all) very comfortably.

I make a few cents over minimum wage because I got the loyalty raise. If I get promoted I will earn an extra two dollar raise.

All I can suggest is if you enjoy it then carry on with it. Personally from working at a theme park I have decided to make it into a career mainly cause there's a huge amount of portentential to progress up the career scale, for example ive gone from being a normal host to a senior host which means I manage a small ish team and I've done that in just under 3 years. It's worth looking into if you are interested in that aspect, probably is different in America to the UK but if anything message me :)
