Hello, does anyone have any information on how I could make my own private internet backbone such as a ARPANET? (but faster)

You want to become an ISP like Comcast, AT&T, and the like? If you have several millions of dollars laying around, go for it! I hear fiber is all the rage these days -- if you can provide this to all of Silicon Valley, for example, the rest of the country will be impressed.

Due to the anti-competitiveness of US telecom, you won't stand a chance, though, because the big providers can't have you giving lower rates and fast internet.
Ever been to Europe? My grandmother in the Netherlands was offered fiber to her house for a little more than we pay in California for 6Mbps/128kbps.

I smiled when I saw this topic because it reminded me of a time when I didn't know as much about the computer world & I actually thought it was possible to create your own ISP. Then I learned of the money involved...
