Unless it's some cryptic puzzle I haven't been able to comprehend, I guess the answer to your question would be that straight and str8 both refer to the sexual orientation of a person as heterosexual hetero romantic.

str8 is generally used as an abbreviation for straight the same way as m8 for mate or any other abbreviation for that matter.

The term "straight" is used as slang for "heterosexual," being sexually attracted to members of the opposite sex, just as the term "gay" is oftentimes used instead of the term "homosexual." Both "straight" and "gay" are perfectly acceptable to use. I'm guessing the former originated along with the derogatory term for a gay person ("bender"), basically saying the opposite.
