So I've been struggling in school lately (let's just say I have to repeat Grade 10 next year), and one of the Special Education guys at my school recommended that I switch to another school to have a style of classes that my current school doesn't offer.

I kind of want to go, but the other school is a bit far from where I live (not as far as I thought, but it's still 20 minutes longer than it takes to get to my current school), and I practically don't know anyone there (I think one person who went to my middle school goes there, but that's it). Not to mention, I have quite a few friends at my current school that I don't think I'd like leaving behind.

However, the other school has a program where I can possibly learn better by (from what I understand) only having regular classes in the afternoon, the mornings being times where I work on homework or catch up or something.

I still have a while to decide, but what should I do?

The choice is all yours. I mean- education is really important and you can keep in touch with your friends trough the Internet. Personally i'd switch.

I am the exact same except, I actually have to repeat the year. If you feel like the school you're currently in is too difficult, or if the classes are going too fast with the lessons then try to contact your counselor and your principal to arrange a meeting with your teachers on what you're failing in and what you need to do to pass. If you feel like uncomfortable with the atmosphere, then I would suggest switching schools, but then again, switching schools at 10th grade is a really long process.

I honestly think you should switch schools. Switching schools in grade 10 is hard and so is leaving behind friends and having to make friends again, but education is one of the most important things about school. I'm not saying it will be easy, but whatever can help you do your best in school is the most important. Personally, whenever someone I am really close to moves (not very often), I keep in touch with them online or, if they're close enough, meet up with them on purpose. Maybe you could try to do this? Also, see if you can find anybody you know online or in person who goes to this school. Asking someone about the school is always best. Finally, if you really can't stomach leaving your friends, it's really your choice. I'm a traditionalist who thinks school comes before friends, but everyone has different priorities, and that's totally cool.

maybe you can ask about going to the new place for a week to see what its like
But if you can sort out the travel and such give it a go.

Well you can always see your friends after school is you decide to transfer. In the future, colleges will want to see progress and your success.
