I'll be 17 at the end of this month and a high school senior in the fall. The particular freshman I have in mind is in band with me and he's very mature and easy to talk to, unlike a lot of other band students. One girl in band dated a freshman boy in band when she was a senior, but she manipulated him very badly and later did the same to a sophomore. If I don't do what she did, is it okay for me to date him?

Maybe. Once you turn 18 it might be kinda weird.
But if you both are cool with it. Why not?

Totally. If you feel for him and he for you go for it. Enjoy life, give in to the heart! Amemus, mea Lesbia, atque vivamus! :)

In my country society that would not be normal or it would be considered like weird act ... There is opinion that only older male can be with same age female or younger female ... Older female with younger male , that kind of relationship is very rare and parents are usually against that kind of relationship ... I cant be "black sheep in white flock" as my people says , so I am too against older female-younger male kind of relationship ... But , that are beliefs of my country society , same is with whole Balkan , because our societies have same beliefs , so , maybe that kind of relationship is normal on West ...

Well nothing wrong with that, I have had a girlfriend who was one year younger then me and she was my senior so I think its normal its depends on your thinking..

I don't think age matters.

Ya and by your standards a 50 year old man can marry a 9 year old girl (that's just sick)

I voted "it wont last" purely from the basis of what i've seen happen statistically.
I've seen 8 relationships like that, or similar, and they've all not worked out. Compared to other relationships in high school, like between same grade, or plus or minus a year, senior and freshman relationships don't succeed or last as long.

Obviously, it's different for everyone, so there's always possibilities. So don't let that discourage you from trying. Love is love.

I normally say "love is ageless, and it's okay to have an age gap"

but honestly, it's just so complicated (emotionally and legally) to be dating a minor after you turn 18.
don't get me wrong, i loved a dude who's 21 now and while it was kept a secret, it was...well...lovely.

if you love him go for it - just know it might not be the *best* choice.
