Kon'nichiwa! Watashi wa Re to imasu. watashi wa amerikajin desu madda nihongo ga skoshi wakatimasu.
Translation:
Good afternoon! I am called Lee. I am american but I do know some japanese.
I'm 15 and I am into steampunk, I live in the Central United States and came here looking to be able to make some friends. I also am currently learning japanese and I am making great progress.
also, Happy 4th of July! :D

The only culture I've managed to learn is from watching anime, but that isn't much. Any good references?

Anime can have some surprising modern references though. I mean, if you watch a lot of anime, you'll know a fair amount.
Like watching American television to learn about America. It isn't perfect, but it's not super inaccurate either.
References for culture? For anime? Sorry, the question confuses me a bit :P
