I just got my period and I'm not sure what to do...I've been using pads but I don't know how long before I have to change...I have also been wondering about tampons...Can I swim in them? What about going to the bathroom? And can I flush them or not?

First off, don't panic so much :daisy:
Secondly, you should probably change your pad about once every 3-4 hours or so. Yes, you can swim with a tampon in. The tampon itself is flushable, but the tube you remove it from is not [check the package for clarification].

What about going to the bathroom? The tampon goes in a different hole than the one you pee with, so it won't affect anything. If you do use tampons, be sure to change them AT LEAST every 8 hours to avoid infections.

Like Val said, try not to panic. I know, easier said than done right.
Have you talked to your parents about this at all?
Especially your mum, she has been through everything herself, and can help get you what you need.
Just a thought.
Besides that, *points to above posts*.
Yeah, what they said :)
It might be an idea to start carrying pads/tampons with you around the time you are set to get it (probably a bit before) so youre always prepared. The average cycle is every 28 days however, when you first start it can vary quite a bit so dont worry.
You can always ask more questions on here though :)

Lol Jessi, I thought exactly the same thing when I read that
And that, kiddies, is why we always get second opinions. And third, and fourth.

Haha, I guess that's the point of these forums, right? So people can keep adding in the stuff the people before them forget about?

New problem:
My period stopped one night... but some time the next day it started again. Then it stopped. Then is restarted.
Is there something wrong with me?

Nope. That happens sometimes, especially during the first two or three years that you have your period, when it's least predictable. I have a friend whose period ALWAYS does that, she'll have it one day, it's gone the next, and then it comes back for two or three more days. Everyone's different.

That's normal, it happens to almost everybody. During my cycle at the end, it stops for a day, comes back for one more day and then it's done.

Im really sorry to hear that.
Anyone in your family/friends, preferably female and older, would be able to help you more. Or maybe the school nurse/counsellor.
We're always here to answer any questions you have but sometimes its good to have a face to face chat with someone :) Just a thought, but its up to you.

Dont worry its not a big deal but from what ive heard it is harder to use a tampon at first so u might want to carry a few of each with u in a back pack or purse or something. also like wat ScotsGirl said u can go see the nurse because that is wat they r there for.
Hope i helpped

wow..i'm sorry about your mom. It does get difficult i suppose. But you can still ask an adult you trust alot, such as a teacher, nurse, counciler, ect.
