View Full Version : Learning to Shave

Bad With Names

Ok this is my first thread so...
I'm 14 and my dad has not taught me how to shave. However the doctor yesterday commented on how I am growing up and need to start shaving. I was trimming my face before but now...

Idk what to do b/c I don't want facial hair and have a bit of a party tomorrow.

Also one time my dad asked me if I tried to shave and I said no and another time he asked me if he should teach me to shave but I couldn't say anything. I am really quiet and know my parents will make a big deal of this and my sister will probably burst out laughing if I start shaving. Should I try on my own or somehow work up courage to ask him?

I have the same issue
The majority of my friends I can safely asume that they shave and yet I am only trimming so I would say that the next time it comes into conversation ask to learn to shave

Trust me, it's really not hard at all to do. If I were you, just tell your dad (I had my mom there when I needed to start, my dad is dead) and he'll help you. It's really NOT that hard at all, I haven't cut myself at all, not even when I started. I don't know what you mean by trimming... but I've just been shaving since about... October or November of last year (I was 15 at the time).

My dad never taught me, I just started one day when I decided "nope, nope nope nope, no more pube beard).
Didn't actually cut myself, not hard to do, quite easy in fact. Just cut with the grain and dont go to fast, take it slow.

I'm in the same exact position as you.

pull your dad aside, take a deep breath, and ask him to show you how to do it. i'll bet you both find a way to laugh about it and become closer.
i don't need to worry about shaving but still like to watch my dad do it. we have great talks with nobody else around.

I am really , really , really hairy ... I have body hair everywhere on my body , so I am whole in very , very bushy brown body hair ... I have also a lot of facial hair , but I trim it because I used to shave but my skin is really sensitive so I had some problems with shaving ... Worst was iritiation that lasted on my face for 2-3 days , after that few pimples would appear ( no matter I have clear face without pimples , acne and blackheads ) , they would only appear after shaving .. So I realised that trimming is better than shaving because of iritations ... But now I want to let it grow and to have full beard , I dont like my appearance because I have "baby face" ( as my mom calls it ) so I look in my face like I have 11 or 12 years ( even I have 192cm and 105kg ) ... Few hours before I had argument with my parents about that ( growing beard ) , i think that it would better (to let it grow) but they think that I will look like some old man , because I am very tall , strong and massive and with that beard i would look like Viking ( as my father says ) ... I dont know what is better ? Anyway , I think that trimming is way better than shaving ... Regards ...

Its not all that hard, I taught myself to shave cause I don't have a dad and or a mentally stable man in my life ( the only one I have is my grandpa who is 70 AND he has atimers and just had a stroke ) so I had to self teach myself. I think you should just go ask him , better than later ....

It is odd for a doctor to comment to shave. Shaving is a personal choice. I avoid shaving until my late puberty because the more you shave usually the more hair u grow. My dad didnt taught me to shave. I just by my shavers and the shaving gel. Take time to shave or u may cut urself.

Definitely get help with your first shave, and I would just ask your Father. Unless your Father is some sort of awful person he is the best person to help you out. If your sister makes a big deal about shaving, then just remind her about the first time she shaved her legs. It is tough when you do things for the first time and feel self conscious about them, but I would reach out and get help because you have nothing to loose. It is best you learn to shave from someone experienced than trying to do it alone and hurt yourself.

oops sorry trying to answer your shave post - I cannot add my whole post

anyways yes were your parents in with the Doc

Enjoy the party and ignore sister!!!
I am REALLY bad at talking about things like that. It just came up in conversation about the doctor too and my sister didn't laugh so maybe it won't be that bad. I'm still pretty sure I will never work up the courage to ask :(. sorry I can't pm yet

It's not that difficult, I wasn't taught and now I shave two or three times a week. Just google how to and go slowly. Also, make sure you have an aftershave balm for afterwards cause if not then you will be really red for the first few times!

Shaving is not hard at all, no one taught me. Its kind of common sense once you start. Just go slowly and make sure to rinse off the blade when there is to much shaving cream.
