Chat Room commands?

People have been using the /a command to display action messages but whenever i do it the message dissappears as if it went through but doesnt appear on the chat log. is this because im a new member? everything else on chat works the same just not that.

You must be typing the wrong commands, then. They work the same for everybody. There is a help button in the chat that lists the commands, but the action command is /me not /a.
