Is anyone in the process of producing electronic dance music? I'm getting a midi keyboard in 2 days, and i honestly have no clue where to start. I have already got a DAW (basically a program for producing music) and a good couple VST's. but oh my god. trying to find that right sound and get something going is such a pain in the butt!.. I'm honestly just stuck in a state of confusion. that being said i still want to produce, and I certainly am willing to learn.
If anyone is able to help me shed some light, please do so! lol.
thanks, -zach :)

I am an electronic musician. Still learning of course.
By produce do you mean create or produce as in mix whatever producers do nowadays?
Im going to assume you mesn create.
So the first thing is you need a good daw. I personally use ableton lite live. It is cheaper than the full and i lack the money to buy live standard.
Daws like fl studio and pro tools are also good.
Pro tools and ableton live suite/standard
are industry standard.
MIDI isnt too tricky if you know what it is. Knowledge of midi is essential.
Basically you should know midi is how the computer reads notes. Each key is assigned to a specific midi number. The midi information tells the computer which notes to play and when. Unlike normal audio recording, the computer must read the note from the begining inorder to trigger it to play. For example, if you play a midi note #60 (middle C) for an entire bar, then put your xursor in the middle of the bar and pressed play to hear it back, it wouldnt work.
Midi keyboard type is important as well. Dont get a tuny cheap one like 25 1/2 size keys. Always get full size keys. Velocity sensitive keys are an important feature.
I use M - Audio Oxygen61 3rd generation. It is about $200 CAN and a good beginner keyboard.
Vsts are important. In order to create good sounds on them you need to understand how a digital analog synth works. (For most)
That will take too much to explain on here. Sorry.
Good VST are
Synth1
Tyrell
Adonis
And
Alpha
Synth1 being the best for learning how digital analog synth works.
PM me if you need help.
Good luck :)
