Considering alcohol lowers your inhibitions and messes with emotions and such, its not really a big deal. There's most likely a reason for crying maybe from something you've never overcome emotionally, even if you thought you have. Well, assuming you feel sad while crying. Have you ever used alcohol to cope with depressing events?

I either cry hysterically when drunk or laugh like an idiot. Considering that your body is intoxicated with alcohol it's normal to experience things like this from time to time, depending on alcohol intake.

Yeah, it's not really uncommon. When you're sober do you ever talk about what's on your mind? If you don't, then well, as mentioned, the alcohol will make you lose all inhibitions, and things you keep bottled up inside will just come out.
That would be my best guess.

I don't cry when I'm drunk, but I've heard a lot of people do. Quite common from what I hear.

It's common and it's OK. It's quite funny...
Once I went out clubbing with my whole class on a kind of after-prom party, and a girl started crying "just because." Then another girl started crying, and then another one. None of them had a reason, they did normal stuff, they were even laughing but they were just crying "automatically." I even have a selfie with this girl who was laughing but you can see the tears coming out of her eyes lol.

Remember alcohol is a depressant, so any effects that are linked to feelings of sadness are expected and totally normal. Alcohol raises awareness of emotions by heightening them. It's likely that you've bottled up many negative emotions and the only way they are able to come out is through you being drunk, leading to crying. Unless you're crying because you're happy because I know I do that. It's pretty normal but if you genuinely feel upset when you're drunk then you need to be careful because it could lead to an alcohol dependency.

Let me explain you the concept of CNS depressant...
A CNS depressant is a drug that depresses (no, really?) the central nervous system - aka the brain. However, it's a physiological depression, not a psychological one - it doesn't mean you feel depressed, sad...
CNS depressants' most common effects are decreased breathing and heart rates, resulting in loss of consciousness or respiratory depression when overdosed.
Opioids are also CNS depressants. For example: an heroin user is physically depressed, but heroin's most noticeable effect is euphoria - the opposite of psychological depression.
Alcohol is also euphoric - you chemically *are* happy when you drink alcohol, but when you take too much/depending on the social context, you may feel psychological depression.

I'm not usually that type of drunk guy, I usually get really hyper and stuff, granted alcohol can make me more honest so I suppose if I had a lot of stuff bottled up inside it could maybe lead to crying and stuff.
