So I've been on melatonin for like 18 months (only supposed to for like 2 months) so I ended up doubling the dosage at about two weeks ago. I snort it sometimes to get it into my system faster. I had to be put on melatonin because I had 3 concussions and I needed to sleep. I developed a tolerance and now I need the 6mg instead of 3mg and I cant sleep without it, so I need a new form of sleeping pill.

TL;DR
Recomendations for OTC sleeping pills.

Well before you take a different kind of drug you need to know why you need it. Have you always had melatonin deficiencies or is there some sort of environmental influence that is causing you to have this? Do you suffer from insomnia? I'd recommend seeing a doctor first because you don't want to be taking something marketed as a sleeping pill that could have other effects. Also, are you sure that it's a tolerance rather than a dependence?

before taking any more pills ask your doctor. you should try to sleep without it, try to reduce the dose a bit at least.

SWIM (Someone Who Isn't Me) once experimented with melatonin when in a desperate slump trying to stay sober. SWIM did some research using the trusty internets and found out that melatonin seemed to have a high chemical dependance after extended use. SWIM, seeing that melatonin is a hormone naturally produced in the body, believes if doses of this hormone are taken regularly over a long period of time, the body will become accustomed to that level of melatonin and will feel as if it needs more to continue functioning. SWIM is no doctor but SWIM remembers from AP psych class that melatonin is produced in the pineal gland, located between the two hemispheres of the brain, so to determine if this gland was effected by the concussions without blood/urine tests seems a little improbable. But, besides for messing your sleep cycle up, melatonin seems to be a very safe supplement, in even much higher doses than 6 mg, considering SWIM's uncle takes 10mg daily.

TL;DR
Unless you tested your melatonin levels I don't see why its needed. It causes dependency, but like any drug/supplement you can ween yourself off it but melatonin is pretty harmless except in stupidly high doses.

Now when you say you were "put on" melatonin do you mean by your doctor or did someone just advise you to?

But to answer your question I would go with sleep aids like ZzzQuil, Nytol, Unisom, and so on, since instead of introducing a hormone into body, these aids are antihistamines. But be careful even though they are claimed to be "non-habit forming"

Don't snort it I doubt it's even active that way and anything you get out of that is just drippage. I used to take ambien which helped for a while but it fucks you up. Marijuana helped me sleep, but I can't smoke right now so I have to deal with no sleep. Not that I'm recommending drugs but I'm just putting it out there
