I'd of added Douglas Addams, but I've actually never read the books, only the movie.

You telling me you've never read the books...but want me not to hurt you?
On a more serious note. Read them, they are about 10000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 00000000000000000x better than the film, in comparison the film was a steaming pule of horse shit.

John Green, Matthew Reilly, Tolkien, J.K. Rowling
I'll add Jean-Paul Sartre and Albert Camus to the list too although I've only just started reading their works. I also really enjoyed The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky.
I haven't read any of George Orwell but I've really been meaning to, same with Aldous Huxley.

I like Ayn Rand as well. Cheers.
Apart from that Philip Pullman and Patrick Rothfuss would be my favourites.

As a die-hard HGTTG fan, I assure you the movie was not a "pile of horse shit". :P It was written by Douglas Adams as well, actually, and the whole reason it's not the same as the books is that NONE OF THE ADAPTATIONS ARE. However, with the exception of the 6th book, they are all written by him in some way, shape, or form.

Douglas Adams liked to change it up a bit every time, just to fuck with people.

You know, I really like to read, but I'm not an author based reader or much of a series reader.

Plus I'm having a super brainfart when it comes to author names.

I'm not saying it was bad, notice I said, " by comparison", meaning the film is still good, but the books are intimately better. I think anyone can agree with that. So much more content, well written, funny, mind bending, just awesome all round.

Most people just don't know that he also helped write the movie, so they write it off as a "hollywood fail", when it's really just an alternate storyline :P

Well, you can't compare a movie to a book to begin with. It may be a rather short book, but movies are shorter still. However, as movies go, it was very-well cast, the effects were decent, there were some added gags that weren't in the books- which was nice, and the plot was...Liveable. It wasn't quite as cohesive as in the book, imo, but it was ok.

As movies go, it was pretty dang enjoyable, and as book to movie adaptations go, it was freaking solid. Book to movie adaptations are almost always TERRIBLE, and with a few exceptions, like, Holes, for instance (Why can't Disney go back to making movies that are that good???) they're not exactly great either.

Like Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist. HGTTG as an adaptation ranks higher than that by far. I love Kat Dennings, Michael Cera, and Jay Baruchel, but the adaptation was so poorly thought-out that I could hardly enjoy it. It's okish, the actors did good considering the movie itself, but I was SO disappointed. Because I love that book.

And don't get me started on Inkheart. Yet another really good cast in a terrible movie. And not the right cast, either. Love the actors, but not necessarily in those roles...

And admittedly, I didn't picture Mos Def as the ideal Ford Prefect, nor do I think Zooey Deschanel was the best pick for Trillian (because imo Trillian is a piece of work and a snob. She's probably the most expendable part of the series. Liked Fenchurch FAR better, and Zooey would've made an AMAZING Fenchurch. I cast Zooey as Fenchurch in my mind when I read the series.) even though I love Zooey.

I think Mos Def still did a good job though. I liked the twist he gave to the character. He was a bit more relatable than Ford was in the books. (If you take away the end book- he's a lot less...Idk, full of himself, I guess.)

Sam Rockwell and Martin Freeman were spot on, though. Loved Stephen Fry as The Guide, and Alan Rickman as Marvin. Once again, great casting.

I mean, I agree that the book/s were infinitely better, but dang, as far as movie adaptations go, it was solid as fuck.
