I know about the 90's 'grunge' sub-genre of alternative rock. People in the 90's kinda rocked a 'i dont care' look, that was directly influenced by the sub-genre.
Now, in my opinion, soft grunge is a wannabe of the actual 90's grunge. A few years ago it was called 'hipster'.
Lately, every depression/suicide/self-harm blog on tumblr has been putting up posts with the tag "#soft grunge".
Depression, suicide, and self-harm are being given a fashion trend. This means that, according to tumblr, if you see a skinny girl wearing a Nirvana or Ramones shirt, topped by a dark colored flannel, high-waist short shorts, and a pair of Doc Martens, she must be depressed, suicidal and/or she must self-harm.
If people were trying to bring the 90's back, they wouldn't be buying band shirts of bands they don't listen to, wouldn't be romanticizing depression, suicide, or self-harm, AND would not care and spend so much time trying to be 'soft grunge'.
I dont even know where I'm going with this thread. I decided to talk about this because today I was wearing a Mayday Parade shirt (are then even considered 'grunge' or 'soft grunge'?) and a girl came to me and said "Oh my God, you dress so soft grunge. That band shirt looks so good with those jeans." and I looked at her like 'what?' I'm sorry if I offended someone here, but I just had to say this.
