Like the title says, I want to loose weight. I tried dieting for a month or two, trying to avoid chips, chocolate and pretty much all the stuff I like, but I failed miserably. I also tried Herbalife, which helped a lot, loosing some pounds in 2 weeks, but I was forced to stop by my mom. She doesn't want me to use Herbalife again, or use dieting pills because they've taken a toll on my health before.

So, I'd really like some advice from people who've successfully lost weight. Are there any tips you could give me? Please post! I'm tired of being judged by the size of my clothes and stomach. :/

I think the idea is not to eat absolutely anything but to have an healthy diet. You shouldn't skip meals, and you should always try to eat at specific hours. Drink lots of water, avoid junk food and also try to exercise a bit, just jogging for about half an hour every two days might help.

Replace soda with water; eat healthier, but allow yourself some slack (a fast food meal once every couple weeks, a small sugary snack from time to time), and light exercise (walking around the block, etc.). Those are small steps to take. You'd be surprised by what a difference they make.

Dieting is pretty easy once you got the hang of it, trust me, I've been struggling for years and then it just suddenly worked.

The idea is that you need to cut out calories(consume less calories than your body burns) while not depriving your body of anything it needs. First, you need to figure out how much your body burns typically. It's hard to get an exact number there, but a teen girl can usually calculate with 1700 to 2000 calories a day. Your goal is to consume LESS than that(so less than 1700, trying to go for 1500 would be a good idea) on any given day and move more to increase your consumption. However, never starve yourself. If you eat too little, it will result in your body adjusting to the lowered intake by making you, essentially, sick - and it makes it impossible to lose weight. This is why crash diets never work for long.

As long as you build your diet around lean proteins(fish, chicken without skin, the occasional piece of beef with the fat cut off, tofu...), fruits, vegetables, water and whole grains, you should be fine. Just starting to count your calories can help immensely as it shows you when you eat too much.

Once you get into the hang of dieting healthily, you can start being more ambitious. A smart thing to do, for example, is alternating your calorie intake. Spending 6 days a week eating less than your body consumes but one day eating a bit more - which will help burn more fat as it stops your metabolism from adjusting too much. But for now, just make sure to eat less than your body burns. Try never to consume more than 1700 calories on any given day. As long as you stick to (lots and lots of) vegetables, fruit and lean meats you will be fine and you will never be hungry.

Any exercise you do helps immensely.

BTW, your mother was right to forbid you from taking diet pills. They are incredibly unhealthy, even dangerous, and usually only effective short-term or as placebo. Diet and exercise will always have bigger effects if done right.

Apassionato knows what he's talking about ;)
i suggest eating a lot of fruits and veggies, drinking 2 liters of water per day and doing cardio (run, bike, walk fast, swim) 4 times a week during 30-40 minutos each time. also, avoid sugars (chocolate, crappy cereal, etc), sweet stuff (like lollipops, candy, etc) and fast food. the more fruits and veggies you eat, the better :3

good luck and don't give up!!

All of this, and I'd also suggest to avoid wheat/dairy products as much as possible (http://www.beyondveg.com/billings-t/fresh/natural-human-diet.shtml). Find veggies and fruits you like, and it those as a snack instead of chips/crisps. Fish, chicken, pork, turkey, and ham are the best meats. The more "organic" foods you can get, the better.

The ONLY thing you need to do is eat less than you are burning. you don't even need to run or do cardio or anything like that if you don't want to.

also it doesn't matter what you eat. you can lose weight on mcdonalds or other fast food as long as youre not exceeding your calorie limit, just like you can gain weight eating those "organic foods" if you exceed your calorie limit. eat 1500 calories/day of anything and if you aren't noticing results after a week or so lower it down a bit.

hopefully this will set the record straight
