I know there's a whole thing about how much the government knows about us. I just wanted to know if people knew exactly how much they DO know about an average person like me. I know they have lots of surveillance and stuff out there, but is it focused on people who are "at risk" or what? and What can be done with this information? I never hear of anything happening unless there is a reason to do so. Like do they know what apps i have on my phone? and what my passwords and everything i've clicked on while on the internet, and what i say when i talk to people on skype or something?
Shouldn't they be focusing on more important issues that happen every day in the world rather than me and what I am doing on my phone or some other average person that I'm talking to??? Just curious

From what I know, it's not so much that they have you under surveillance directly as they do indirectly. They know your moves. But only if you become of interest to them- otherwise it's irrelevant.
Unless Person Of Interest is based upon reality, that is. :P

They know your basic information, but it's not like they are preciecly tracking down every person; that would take so many people, and then those people would have to be watched too, etc.

They collect your emails, texts, web history, and who you call, but they don't actually really pay attention to you specifically unless you do something to get their attention. Like, for instance, typing
ALLAH JIHAD BOMB INFIDEL AIRPLANE EXPLOSION TALIBAN DEATH ANTHRAX FERTILIZER WATER SUPPLY 9/11
NOW IS THE TIME BROTHERS OF ALLAH. TOMORROW AT NOON WE SHALL SHOW THOSE INFIDEL PIGS WHO IS REALLY IN CHARGE. ALLAH AKBAR!!!!
Or, y'know, something like that.

Gamma Male...
You've got guts. (I didn't quote you, as I'd prefer to keep my file at the NSA clean of such "incriminating" evidence. I'd prefer to stay off the "no fly" list.)

You said my name and I'm quoting you. You are now officially an acquaintance of mine. Enjoy. :D

I don't think typing that onto this site will actually get their attention, there is a list filled with search terms the u.s. government uses when looking through google searches, if you search one of the terms, they do a follow up investigation to see if you are a threat and then move on to the next.

they should use that for people who are trying to buy guns or bomb making materials online... because that's a thing i'm pretty sure. Or maybe to see people who may be at risk of doing something dangerous like a mass shooting or something.

Even though its fiction, watch the show Person of Interest. Everything on that show is possible. Whether the government has gone that far, I don't know. As for keeping your private life private, you'd have to completely and utterly remove every trace of your existence and never go online, near security cams, or any other recording device such as a phone or computer. It's impossible.
All i can say is keep what you share online to a minimum.
