My dash cam experiment

So after watching countless hours of dash cam videos on YouTube, I decided to make my own dash cam setup! It was really quite simple and cheap: the only thing I had to buy was a mount for my iPod touch. Then I have this cigarette lighter charger for it so it doesn't drain the battery.

I only really ran into three issues: space, overheating, and the microphone can be a bit wonky sometimes. Here's the test video I took on my way home today. After I ended it my iPod threw the temperature warning and disabled, which I'm still trying to figure out how to get around. But without further ado:

Nice , I like that idea, Im gonna have to do that with my van ( once I can legally drive (^^,). What kind of vehicle do you have ? how big is your dash window ( small , moderate , big , giant ) what color is your car ( color has a big effect on your cars temp. ) and btw , your voice is just fine , its deep like it should be and love your accent :D , So much different from mine

I drive a Nissan Leaf EV, S (base) trim, sedan-sized windshield and it is black interior and exterior. I tried again when I went to go run some errands, and I found out that just pointing one of the AC vents up towards the mount helps keep things cool. Still struggling with the wobbling though. It's not really my iPod's fault, it's just a really crappy mount. :P

And awww I'm glad someone likes my voice XD I hate my accent but we don't need to get this thread off topic now haha

Neat video! I just started something similar. Bought a GoPro and used one of the mounts to stick it to the dashboard. This stuff is cool in case of a crash, you have footage to show. I'll see of i upload something from me

I drive a Nissan Leaf EV, S (base) trim, sedan-sized windshield and it is black interior and exterior. I tried again when I went to go run some errands, and I found out that just pointing one of the AC vents up towards the mount helps keep things cool. Still struggling with the wobbling though. It's not really my iPod's fault, it's just a really crappy mount. :P

I was thinking about doing this on my bike. With a camera mounted to my helmate, you can get them designed to he used like that fairly cheaply, jusypt for evidence if I get hit

Bad design + Asian mom minivan drivers parked diagonally across the through traffic lanes = extremely hellish parking lot.
