View Full Version : Why did I get irrationally upset about her today?

A girl that I was best friends with for over a year is the one I'm talking about. She doesn't go to my school anymore, but we still keep in contact via texting, and we see each other every Wednesday for dance rehearsals for a school dance we'd agree we'd do together.

So she's always has a reputation for being very promiscuous and acting "slutty," as some guys I know say. Despite this I had a crush on her for ages (I don't know if I still do), and I would always get super jealous whenever she or someone else talked about her and her boyfriend, specifically them having sex.

So today I kind of just got very upset because my friends and I were standing around at recess, and one of them mentioned this girl, and asked if we'd seen what she posted on Facebook. I hadn't (because I avoid looking at what she posts, as it ether makes me very jealous or disdainful towards her), so he took out his phone and showed us. It was a photo of her naked with only her hair covering her breasts, and the photo was from the waist up. Since I'm possibly the only guy in her life that doesn't just like her for the possibility of sex, I felt very upset at this. She is constantly demeaning herself and lowering her self-respect by posting photos and status' like this. As my friends starting calling her a slut, I got upset and stormed away.

That was the first incident. The second was later that day at lunch, when one of the same guys started talking about a status she made complaining about how her boyfriend never licks her out. They found this hilarious, but I don't know if it was a mix of jealousy and annoyance or what, but I just got so upset I stormed away yet again, and didn't really speak to anyone for the rest of the day.

I know it's probably stupid and irrational how upset I got, and for why, but for some reason it just really hits a nerve with me when I find out she's posted stuff like that. When she's around me she's a completely different person, very quiet and kind and intelligent, but when she's not she acts like that. It makes me question which is her real personality and which is the put-on one. I'm seeing her again tonight for the dance rehearsals, so like always I'll try to act normal and cheerful around her, although it gets harder by the day.

ETA: I guess this was more of a vent than a question. Sorry about that.

You know, she may thank you later in life for that. You are the few who think of her way differently than others. Which is a good thing, not to believe rumors and listen to gossip!

Stay friends with her. There will come a point where she'll need you the most.

it seems you are the one who can penetrate her social identity and see her real self, and you are attracted to her real self. just talk to her and dont account for what your pals think. eventually she might see how honourable it is to have you as a friend.
