View Full Version : General medication.

Through my whole life, I've only taken medicine on two cases: two consecutive serious ear infections that almost impaired me when young; and once when I got the worst headache in my life. I denied any other aspirins and stuff.
This doesn't seem to be the general case, at least in Brazil. People seem to always have 1-3 boxes of pills right aside them in their bedrooms. Cough and sneeze and pain and other general pills, mostly.
Is this common in other countries? Do you have your general supply of general medication? Do you take such pills as an everyday thing or only in serious cases? Is this recommendable?
Thanks for your attention! :)

I've taken various medications for sickness because I have a bad immune system, I was a kid, not treating me would've been borderline child abuse if not child abuse as I was running 103-105 degree fevers each time, etc. I've taken medications to keep me from throwing up so that I wouldn't die of malnourishment. I couldn't eat when I was hm, 11? 12? I would throw up nearly every meal- even rice, bananas, toast, broth, water. Gatorade. Miso. Eggs. Everything. At one point, I just refused to eat, because I didn't want to throw up anymore. Eventually we got it under control, but I was extremely overweight, and haven't been able to keep weight on properly since. I tried to take a medication to keep me from having psychosis, but it ironically just made me more paranoid. Fml. I've also taken various allergy medication AT TIMES, due to the fact that my allergies would get so bad I couldn't breath at night, and I'd develop sinus infections that kept me home from school all the time. I've taken an albuterol inhaler on a somewhat regular basis since I was 10. I've had to take antibiotics for UTI's several times. I've had to take trazodone as a sleeping pill for a few weeks now, and depakote to manage my manic symptoms for a couple of months. I had to get shot in the ass with teradol (I think?) one day after a severe migraine. (Due to an OD of trazodone I told no one about. I just happened to be going to the doctor that day anyways.)
By and large, they've all been necessary, with the exception of the antipsychotic that didn't help at all. But had it've helped, it would've been necessary as well.
I also have to take ibuprofen a lot for my joints/period cramps/migraines/etc.
Edit: Would also like to note that depakote is supposedly good for me because it's also an anticonvulsant and a migraine helper, but it hasn't helped a whole lot in either of those areas.
It's helped a bit with my mood symptoms, but not like I'd like.

Nope.
I never take medicine, unless I'm dying on my couch of some insane fever or the like.

I only have acetaminophen for the random unbearable headache, and antihistamines for shitty, pollen-y summers. The first is in my bathroom cabinet, the other is in a drawer in my desk at work, since I walk outside to get there.
I take them very sparingly.

Mine does too. MY younger brother and sister have anxiety/depression issues. I do too. IN the last two years I Had cancer and went through a couple operations and radiation 2x. So I have quite a bit of cancer related drugs around still. Lots of pain killers still. Myself alone I would say have a home pharmacy lol.

Same here.
No one in my family has an issues or illnesses (thankfully), so we don't really have much prescribed medicine around the house.

I've never really took cold medicine unless I was younger. However, I've been on different types of bipolar medication, anxiety, Melatonin, and once on ADHD meds until I threw and air conditioner through the wall and the doctors came to the realization I'm actually Bipolar..

I tend to avoid medication for anything if possibole, dont like tasking it. I have an immune system for a reason, if i was to just take drugs for everything I wouldnt get my moneys worth out of it :P

I prefer to limit the amount of chemicals into my body which hence include drugs.
Well, I only take medication when I really need them...
