Would you be offended if someone defined themselves Aryan in regards to ethnicity, in regard to the typical nazi-promoted "Nordic" qualities but without hinting to Nazism? (e.g. in one of the surveys that are plentiful on VT)

Aryans?Does any pure Aryan exist anymore?

There's no such thing as a pure ethnicity anyway, so it's a moot point. If you go back far enough, we're all African. :)

Technically, the only real Aryans come from the Indo-Iranian area of Asia. So if a clearly Nordic person called him or herself Aryan without Nazi overtones, I would ask them to check their terminology.

No it would not. Why should it? Everyone has the right to define and/or classify themselves in any manner they chose.

This exactly. Hitler's idea of what an Aryan person looked like was wrong.

Not really, unless of course you would say it in a way to mean your superior to others and that your "pure." If that was the case, I would laugh my ass off. Every "race" has genetic links to some other "race." For example, Germans (the "Aryan" race so to speak) and western Slavs share a lot of common blood dating about the 300-1000 range, which in return those Slavs share a lot of blood with Uralic peoples, whom some people do not even consider "white."

I do (ironically) because the reactions are always priceless.

There's not really such a thing (anymore) as "aryan", and we mostly know it as what hitler concidered aryan, so calling oneself aryan is either a lie or a reference to hitler's idea of it.

I'm a giraffe. Does my belief that I'm a giraffe make sense? No, just like it doesn't make sense for someone to call themselves Aryan.

Just because it's absurd doesn't diminish the right of that person to believe it or proclaim it.

Besides, the OP asked if it would be offensive. Not whether it was genetically probable.

I'm saying both are equally absurd claims. If someone thought themselves a true Aryan, I'd laugh. If someone thought themselves a giraffe, I'd laugh.

So no, I wouldn't be offended, I'd laugh at their ignorance.

I don't see a reason why somebody would actually call themselves Aryan other than
1 They just want to look "edgy" and stir up shit.
2 They're racist neo Nazis.

It just seems really unlikely that somebody would label themselves Aryan for any other reason.

The Aryan race that Hitler bases his fundamentals upon didn't even exist, so unless they're referring to the Middle-Eastern Aryans, then they are completely and utterly wrong.

It would make as much sense as someone specifying his race as untermensch. Everyone know all races are equally worthless. It's up to the individual to do something with his life.

I was not speaking about the validity of the concept of "Aryan people" itself. I was just asking how socially acceptable it would be to use that terminology.

Well if the Aryans were around (middle-eastern, central europe etc whatever) before Naziism came about and used them as the example for a master race, even if brought about by propaganda, then I don't see why defining oneself as Aryan should make you be seen to be pro-Nazi etc, the Aryans (which did exist in some form) came before the Nazis.

Defining your self Aryan is not being racist at all. I study anthropology, Aryan is just a classification such as Negroid. So when it comes down to it it would just depend on the persons opinion, and in this day and age anything you say having to do with race and classifications makes you a racist according to the media.

It wouldn't be racist if you call yourself anything, but if they are just caucasian german people for example it would just be wrong, right?

If it happened in my country,

1. if he's Finn, I would laugh since were mixture of Swedes, Russians and Uralic people
2. if he's Swedish Finnish or immigrant from other European country, I would tell him to fuck off

If it happened here, I would ask if he means with word "Aryan" white or Iranian(?)
