Saw this on GovTeen and thought it was a cool thread. Some cars are more reliable than others. My mom's camry's been a rockstar, compared to our Old Windstar we used to own which was a pile of shit.
Post your specs and see how you and your car stacks up against other members!
RULES
*Car has to be at least a 2013 model year, or (if for whatever reason it's newer) owned by you/your family for at least 1 year
*MPG can either be calculated manually, looked up on the fueleconomy.gov, or using your car's onboard computer
*Minor changes, such as changes to oil, car fluids (except brake) and tire changes don't count.
*The car posted need's to be something that's regularly driven - I.E. not some exotic car you only take out 2 times in the warmer months :P
Enjoy!

Here's my mum's car:
Car: Toyota Camry
Year: 2000
Average MPG: Around 20 combined (according to fueleconomy.gov)
Miles: Close to 150k, not sure of the exact number
Problems: Brakes squeak at low speeds (e.g. in a Parking lot) and the vents smell moldy, but neither of them are major.
Engine: 3.0L Toyota MZ v6
Replaced: To my knowledge the only thing replaced were the front brake pads.... don't know if my mom just eats through her brakes but she's had her brakes serviced a few times iirc. Other than that the car runs like a dream. Love the Camry's from this generation.
My personal car:
Car (make and model): Nissan LEAF EV
Year: 2013
Average MPG: 108MPGe, but I can often get around 65 miles of Range (nonstop) before needing to recharge
Miles: Around 15k
Problems: The HVAC system keeps breaking :(
Engine: 85 kilowatt electric motor
Any replacements: We've replaced the AC compressor hoses two times in a span of a year. Thankfully, the cost was covered in the lease but I really hope it doesn't happen again.

Engine: 2.0 L gas

Car; Ford model A 'Sport Coupe'. (Same as the Ramblin' Wreck).
Year; 1929.
Average MPG; 23.
Mileage..; (Scary high numbers! The odometer has been around 9 times at least, and it goes to 100,000.)
Problems; Nothing too unusual. New clutch in 1946, again in '81.
Engine rebuilt in 1958
Transmission rebuilt last year.
Generator rebuilt two years ago.
New paint; 2011.
Engine; 201 CID (3.3 L) L-head. Bored 0.20 over.
Modifications; Model B ford speedometer form '39 to 61. Had a flathead V-8 from '65 to '87. Now it's all back to stock.
Not bad for a 85 year old car! Daily driven from '31 to 2011 by my great grandmother. it was the only car she ever owned. It only broke down once, in a road race in 1958. That was when it was rebuilt. (She tried to race a '54 BelAire, which was owned by my uncle. The race broke the speedometer, which goes to 80.)
Now I daily drive it!!

I'll post all the cars I have had, plus my Parent's current cars.
My Cars:
Car (make and model): Toyota Camry Conquest
Year: 2001
Average MPG: 7-8 litres per 100
Miles: 201,384 Kilometres
Problems: Needs new stereo. Not a massive issue.
Engine: 2.2 4Cyl with 5-sp manual gearbox
Any replacements: Brake Pads, but that is a consumable item (like oil and tyres), so meh.
Car (make and model): Honda Accord VTi-S
Year: 1994
Average MPG: 7-8 litres per 100
Miles: 236,500 kilometres
Problems: Engine warning light stayed on. This was due to the engine replacement (under warranty), and stayed on for about 18 years with no issue.
Engine: 2.2 4cyl VTEC with 5sp Manual gearbox
Any replacements: Just tyres
This was my favorite of all my cars
Car (make and model): Ford Falcon Wagon
Year: 1996
Average MPG: 14 litres per 100 (so bad on fuel)
Miles: 197,000 kilometres
Problems: Window wouldn't wind down, globe blown behind odometre (only worry was I couldn't see the reading at night)
Engine: 4.0 litre Straight-Six, with 4sp Automatic Gearbox
Any replacements: Driver Seatbelt because it was worn, two full brake replacements in six months.
Car (make and model): Ford Mondeo
Year: 1996
Average MPG: 6 litres per 100
Miles: 215,500km
Problems: Bent valves, brake shudder, blown headgasket, worn out clutch, worn out gearbox, wouldn't idle at all, power steering on its way out.
Engine: 2.0 4cyl
Any replacements: Didn't replace anything because headgasket+valves+clutch+gearbox would have cost $4,000 on an $1800 car
My Parent's current cars:
MUM:
Car (make and model): Mazda CX-5
Year: 2013
Average MPG: 5 litres per 100
Miles: 23,000 kilometres

Problems: Not currently

Any replacements: Intercooler, Radiator, Turbo and rear axels (went too fast going down hill with too heavy a load on and lost control and snapped the axel)
LifeOfLove
June 15th, 2014, 01:10 AM
Car (make and model): Audi RS4
Year: 2007
Average MPG: 17
Miles: 85,000
Problems: It's an Audi, always seems to have a problem. Usually nothing major. Worst one was head gaskets like 15,000 miles ago.
Engine: 4.2L V8 with Supercharger conversion
Any replacements: Upgraded brakes, aforementioned supercharger, tires, a wheel or two, headlight lenses, head gaskets, exhaust, multiple engine seals and sensors.
Overall it's been pretty reliable. It's had a few little issues, but any 500hp car is going to have issues.

Any replacements: coolant tank, front headlight, tires, rear trailing arm, front quarter panel
Car (make and model): Subaru Outback
Year: 1996
Average MPG: 20

Year: 2001
Average MPG: 44MPG, 5.2l/100km
Miles: 161500 miles, 260000km
Problems:
Airflow sensor broke back in 2004, was covered under warranty and didn't cost us an euro.
A couple motors from the electric windows went and another one is on it's way, but understandable for what we use them and the age of the car
Slight fuel leak from the fuel filter that left a prominent smell in the interior. Was fixed, broke again, and we just got it re-fixed. Hopefully this is the last time.
The LCD display fades out when it's hot, due to it's age, it isn't a costly fix but you have to undo the whole cluster and that's the expensive bit. Not fixed
Engine: 4 Cylinder, injector-pump, dual overhead cam, 1.9 liter turbo diesel, 116hp engine
Any replacements: the air flow sensor is the only major thing.
