Five American service members were killed in southern Afghanistan when a coalition jet, called in to help ward off a Taliban attack, mistakenly bombed them, an Afghan official said Tuesday.

It's a sad day to hear this, especially since most people these days forget that we are indeed still fighting a war in Afghanistan, and our soldiers are still dying. My heart goes out towards the family of the American soldiers who lost their lives, and for the Afghan soldier who also lost his life that day. Your sacrifices will not be forgotten.

Aren't we supposed to be out of there by now?? I'm sorry for the loss of life, and pray that their families can get through these next few months, but it's sad to see our government not keeping their promises of bringing them home...

Rip..
The war in Afghanistan is a war for nothing.
13 years of war,+3400 NATO soldiers killed and Talibans are still here..
I saw a lot of french documentaries about the war in Afghanistan, and when i see Afghan soldiers and policemans.... I'm really scared for the future of Afghanistan.
Thank God,all NATO armies will leave this country...
(We left this country Yay !)

It's sad that they died, but the US has no business there. It's sad that these grunts die for corporate interests and for the Military-Industrial Complex.

Sad yes - but how many Afghans have died or been injured in all the years of war - will any one think of them.

I stated that one Afghan soldier was killed in the incident, and I gave my condolences.

I hate to see good, brave, honest people get taken advantage of by the MIC. They risk their lives and die because they think they're protecting our freedom, when in reality the only thing they're protecting is the profits of major corporations. It's a shame the way the US government tricks otherwise intelligent people into becoming pawns in a game they don't understand.

It's not being tricked its something called honor, courage, a sense of duty, and understanding that there are things bigger than yourself.

I hear what you're saying with this, but has it been lost on anyone that there are actually men/women over there that don't even agree with why they're there? They can't leave without having it putting a "black mark" on themselves, so essentially they are stuck over there with two choices: fight until they're allowed to come home, or become another statistic that Americans will eventually forget about. Where's the honor in that?

This is bull shit. Our government needs to get those soldiers out of there and just end this damned war. All it has done for us is cause a great loss in lives.
That said, these soldiers will be missed and honored for their service.

I agree. They NEED to end the war and get us out of there. But they won't. This war was never about freedom for Afghans or Iraqis. It was simply a war on oil - plain and simple. I don't see that changing for a long time. Until it does, we will continue to send young men and women - who actually believe they're fighting for a good cause (sadly) - to die for reasons they don't fully understand.
And, they will be missed, by their friends and families. To the rest of us, they're simply numbers.

If you have any doubt about joining then don't. You cant say they don't understand it when you're too young to even join.

Your fellow citizens and your constitution.
The war in Iraq has done absolutely nothing to protect the American people or our constitution. It's a war for profit. You wanna help protect your fellow Americans? Join the National Guard. Or be a fireman or cop.

In service of your people by doing what they ask you to do. It may not be protecting them but it's doing what your country asks. And the national gaurd still gets deployed overseas

So we should do whatever our government asks of us without questioning it just because they say so?

That's exactly what you're saying. It is not my duty to fight for my government. No such duty exists. And the Iraq war has absolutely nothing to do with protecting anyone's freedoms or defending your people. It's about profit, and it always has been. Nobody should risk their lives by joining the military just to protect the profits of major corporations.

I take two history classes and have read over a hundred books on wars. Some wars are over that yes but not most.

I don't plan on joining. So, I guess I'm safe there. But, I still have the right to sit behind a keyboard and post my feelings for a world of people I don't know to see. :) I guess I should be happy that they're fighting for my right to do just that... but, I still see a lot wrong with it, overall.

I've realized how he was played like a harpe, and that his friendly relationship with Clinton in the 90's led to him thinking that the same was possible with Bush
