Okay, so I began cutting 5 years ago. Right now, I'm 23 days clean.

I use the rubber band thing, where I wear rubber bands around my wrist and snap them when I feel urges. But lately, I've been doing that a lot more frequently and I do it until my arm has a big red line going across it. Today I realized that and I thought, "is this self-harming too??"

So, is it? Or no?

I heard once that it was considered self harming until you bled. So I guess you should stop when you notice bruising on your wrist, otherwise snapping the rubber bands is better than cutting your skin open.

Some people consider it self-harm (which I think is a little harsh to those that don't that can only do this), others don't.

I feel like when you're purposefully leaving welts/etc, that's probably the line. I wear one, but usually I'll try to only flick myself once or twice, and not too terribly hard.

yes anything that intentionaly causes pain to urself is self harm but the point of the rubber band trick is to do less damage so its ok as long as ur not leaving welts

It's technicaly still self harm;
however it's more used as a method to avoid more serious self harm.

Okay, thanks guys. I was really just wondering. So I guess in a way it is, but not as bad as cutting.

Yes it's self harm, but it is a lot better than cutting.
