Personally I don't think they did too much. There are a couple of cool things but this should just be an update to iOS 7, not a whole new version of the operating system. Also, I don't have an iPhone. I have an android, but I do use my iPad daily and on a frequent basis. Much of these changes seem like they will only really appeal to iPhone users anyways.
What are your thoughts?

I feel like there are major changes and new features, but not all of them were the focus since WWDC is after all a developer's conference.

Being an android user, all I thought was "what? they didn't have that before? pfffft".
Cool to be introducing a new language to program to, though. Looks like apps will be much closer to the system than before!
(and that is what Android nerds like - the system is yours to change!)

iOS 8 seems pretty interesting, but should really be just an iOS 7.1. It didn't really add much, just strengthened some aspects of the iDevice. I will get it, and it seems cool, but doesn't really deserve the hype that iOS 7 got.

^that pretty much sums up Apple's philosophy: make minor, incremental changes and give each one a fancy new name and call it THE NEXT BEST THING EVER *gorillions of suckers rush out to buy it*

Pretty much all the new features Apple are adding to iOS8 are the features that Android introduced like 3 years ago. Apple are sooo far behind.

I have disliked iOS since version 7, in my opinion, iOS 6 was the best software ever to come out if Apple. When they hot version 7 they changed the design and hpmade it all...urmm...flat? I don't know how to describe it,

yeah they copied the Windows Phone aesthetic and made it all minimalistic or whatever. they went from a Fisher-Price UI to a Windows Phone UI (without tiles).

My mum has a Windows phone, its not that they are bad, its just that they are not perticuarly good.
Whilst android and iOS are very intuative. Windows os phone edition seems to be far too complex, once you learn how to use it its fine, but for a newbie its quite confusing and counter-intuative.

I like how you can do voice messaging and can talk to Siri without touching your phone. That part where you can start an email on one thing and finish it on another is cool too. I bet there's more but we haven't seen them yet.

They haven't done too much. It would've been smarter to call it iOS 7.2

I agree. iOS 8 should've just been an update to iOS 7. Either that or the features should've just beein in iOS 7 in the first place.

Oh they announced it and showed off some of the features at WWDC. It was a few days ago. It hasn't actually been released yet. You can see what the new features will be if you google it :)

Well that explains it
I'm kind of surprised that the iPhone 5S doesn't have more bells and whistles for what they make it out to be- I'm happy as a clam, don't get me wrong, but gosh, Apple, why do you have to be so dramatic?

Most of the new features are for developers, which appeals to me a lot. This means that for regular users, apps will be much more capable than before.
I also very much like how everything is in sync better than before. I have 4 main Apple devices so that should improve my productivity a bit.

Personally, I love iOS 8. What I'm most looking forward to is the iCloud Drive and Continuity. Having a cloud service by Apple for any file type is much more streamlined for those of us who prefer Apple products rather than say Dropbox or OneDrive. The ability for the devices to communicate the way they would with Continuity has immense potential, especially as Apple proceeds into the smart home space with HomeKit.
