I think its a necessary step that must be taken to reduce carbon emissions. Most of our carbon emissions come from coal-powered electric plants, these new regulations aim to cut carbon emissions by 30%. Opponents of the proposed plan say that its going to hurt the economy by taking away jobs and raising the price of electricity.

Its not just the right complaining about this, its Democrats from coal states such as Kentucky and West Virginia who are also against this fearing it will hurt their states economy.

Well what's more important, economy or the planet we live on?

It's damage the economy now, or wait for climate change to do it for us (estimates, place the loss of global GDP as a result of climate change as somewhere near 3% by 2100, if no substantial effort is made to cut co2 emissions). Of course, when Republicans come into office next time round, I can guarantee you that this is going to be one of the first five things they repeal.

It's a good move, and a brave one since the US is both Skeptical of Climate Change and any attempt to limit their profits

Right. The rich will start worrying about climate change when it starts affecting them.

Unfortunately, by then it will be too late.

Well, at least I can finally fulfill my dream of living in a postapocalyptic dystopian anarchocapitalist society! Maybe I'll start my own biker gang....

Hey, what's the big deal, I'm sure the future generations will understand it was a good business move when they are choking on the very air they break, and have no safe place to live. I'm sure they'll get it.

If it helps the environment, fine, but some of the laws they made are crazy. In Vermont a law was recently passed that says you cannot let your car idle longer than 5 minutes, which many people regularly do.

What? What law is this?

Yeah. I'd agree that's a bad law.

They should obviously have made exceptions for non-fuel (i.e., electric, etc.) driven cars.

I fear that the negative effects of climate change will be the straw that breaks the camel's back (that is, sets off the final collapse of the US.) even if 100% of the US population accepted climate change as a serious concern, the elites will continue to stall environmental efforts and it's going to get worse and worse for us. then when shit really hits the fan, down comes the teetering stack of shit-covered dominoes.

It's a good move, and a brave one since the US is both Skeptical of Climate Change and any attempt to limit their profits

I hate linking to Mother Jones but this is a reasonably good article you might find interesting:

I didn't realize that it was just high-I should probably give the US public more credit.

I think though from at least what I've seen in Britain is that you have politicians who say that they're determined to fight global warming yet they continue to support coal/hydraulic fracking. That's the biggest problem now-actually making sure that we do what's required rather than just sitting back and saying it's a problem

It's really a great thing. It helps the environment and it encourages alternative sources of energy, like water or electricity, instead of coal. The economy is beyond screwed already anyways, has been since a certain REPUBLICAN president came in to office...
