Unfortunatly another name to add to the memorial. Justice will be served though and was partially at the scene.
Seven children are left without a father and a wife without a husband all because some people didn't want to leave a Waffle House. Hopefully these losers spen the rest of their life rotting in jail.

Yet another reason why I'd never take a job as a law enforcer.

They're not really bulletPROOF just resistant. Smaller bullets like the 22 will pierce the soft Kevlar portion and high velocity an really heavy rounds like the 9mm and 357 will pierce to. Most of the vests don't have plates covering the back.

Woooow. This is... Afwul. Who will provide for the kids? It must be hard to lose a father whose presence made you think no one can harm you. Does the government pay the family of a police officer killed in line of duty just as it does for members of the armed forces?

I do not believe they do. Fellow officers and the community will band together and help them. The bond between officer is a strong one and the pain is felt by all. They will be taken care of.

Losing a father. I can't imagine anything worse. I'm worried every night my dad puts on his badge and gun and goes in to work.

Hearing about stuff like this is awful. It makes you realize things like this can happen at anytime, because of how many fucking loony people there are in this world.
It's a shame 7 kids lose their father over something so pathetic and unnecessary as this.

Government should start helping the families whose wife or husband got killed in line of duty. What the community and fellow officers do is very kind and noble.

Yes but usually even the government doesn't appreciate police. It's unfortunate

The police has it's share of dirty and bad cops, that's true, but that's not the reason to leave the families of those who died in line pf duty without an income. It's unfair.

The fraternal order of police and other groups like Shriners and the free masons actually do charities for police officers. All three of those are great organizations

Damn, how did he manage to support nine people in the first place? I always thought police pay was kind of crap, unless U.S cops get paid a hell of a lot more than those in Britain. I guess that does kind of explain the moonlighting gig he was on though.
Anyway, R.I.P to the bloke, I hope his people get through it okay.

I just spent 2 hourst watching videos of cats.
I regained a little bit of my faith in humanity.
And then this happens.
I lost ALL the faith! yay!
Why are guns still legal? I know the NRA back there stubbornly says "the only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun". Even bringing up the subject of not letting anyone have guns in the first place makes you a cowardly communist and a nitwit.
I mean, come on America... this has happened too often...

It really has not changed consistency in my lifetime. Despite being a moderate on many things, I believe the right to bear arms is important. Most fatal shootings, a vast majority, are done with an illegally obtained weapon. I am in a town where hunting is huge, and I do not know a single person who does not practice safe gun care.

Did you read the end of the article that said the shooter was killed by the officers brother, a citizen with a permit to carry the gun

Yes, i did (but i read he was shot in the leg, not killed). That was the point i were trying to make. If nobody had gjns this shouldn't have happened.

Sorry but bullshit. If these people weren't dumbasses and tried to kill a
Police officer there wouldn't have been a problem

You can't guarantee that there won't be dumbasses, but you can somewhat guarantee that they won't have the guns to do it.
I've always been for more gun control, and as someone who's lost their father in the line of duty, I feel its justified. The man who did it had a criminal record, but was still allowed a gun.
I may be pretty much 100% biased, but whatevs.

He wouldn't even have thought of assaulting an officer if he didn't have a gun. I don't see how my argument is "bullshit" haha

Once you decide to do it it doesn't matter what he has. The woman started fighting him with out a gun. He's a criminal and he had his gun illegally. There is no way to garuntee that taking guns from good guys will take them from bad guys.

Then the point i'm trying to make is that it wpuld be a little bit harder to get guns if there were no gunstores in every street.

Actually, it does make it harder for them. They need to go trough more trouble to get them, they can just step into a store saying "hi a m60 pls" and walk out perfectly fine and legal carrying their new weapon of mass destruction.
Anyways this thread is to honor the officer that died, not for us two to fight this argument out. We should be ashamed...

Just tell me how this adds on to either the thread, this discussion or anything in life, please?
I never said you were feeling ashamed, i said that normal people, the kind that realises they're not the only person in the universe, should have felt ashamed if they made that discussion on a "memorial" thread...

I'm saying people have the wrong idea about guns and have some phsyco tic delusion that if we ban guns all our problems will disappear. Look at Detroit! Huge crime rate and guns are banned.
I made the thread I didn't want it turn into a gun control conversation.
I never mentioned gun control. You did
