I can die happy now, haha.
I'll just rant a little about how petrified this film has been making me for the last three years since I first found out about it. It was only a glimmer, with Burton set to direct it until he stepped down and whispers about who they would cast as Maleficent (and while I had many ideas that did not include Jolie, no one could have done it better). I was petrified because even when I was young, I gravitated toward every compelling villain instead of the princess and Maleficent was the pinnacle of my fascination with them. Disney has had a lot of big hits and utter misses with me, rarely anything in between, and I didn't really have any faith in them any more until Frozen proved to me they were still supreme.
Of course it was far from perfect, but it's almost like they picked my own brain for ideas it was that in-line with my brand of fantasy. I do see what people say about Jolie being surrounded by a mediocre movie, cause I do feel Maleficent as a character and her story was really the only redeeming feature. She easily outshined every other aspect of the work, but as the movie is called Maleficent, that's a fault I can easily forgive as they did much justice to the original villain and much more.
My favourite parts were the twist (I won't talk about it other than thank you SO much to whoever came up with that twist because you're my hero) and the christening. I think they made the correct decision to keep such an iconic scene almost completely true to the original (as someone who knows Maleficent's speech word-for-word). I think overall I'm most overjoyed that my anxiety is over and they've hit the mark and did it well.
