We're starting a swimming unit in PE next week and we have to wear trunks and no tops for this. Now I'm not skinny (as my username suggests) and recently I've been feeling really bad about it. I'm dreading doing the unit because my whole class is going to see my fat. I'm not that big but it's bothering me.
How can I get over it and do you have this issue too?

Anyone can feel self conscious about their body.
If you start hiding your body it will only bring more attention to it.
Don't worry, everyone's got fat and there's no problem in being chubby.
I mean serious overweight is a different thing, but there's not wrong with not being physicaly ideal.

Don't worry about it, three nothing wrong with being a little chubby. No one is perfect. And like Cheesee said, if you try to hide it, you'll bring more attention to it. Just don't think about it.

I think all of us feel self conscious when we first start exposing our changing adolescent bodies to other people. I have talked about this with some guys on my swim team. One was nervous because he thinks his legs are too skinny, one guy thinks he is too hairy for 15, another thinks he is too chubby, one is embarrassed because he doesn't have pit hair yet, my nipples poke out more than I think they should....everyone has some part of their body that they wish was different.
Like other responses said, just do what you need to do & don't try to hide anything, because then the teasing gets REALLY bad. You will probably work off your extra weight by participating in sports, my friend will eventually get pit hair, & my doctor told me that about 30% of boys get enlarged nipples & they eventually go away. All we can do is wait for the hormones to finish changing our bodies, while trying to keep physically fit.

some people are shy about their body even if it's perfect and the other way around. we were at a convenience store today and there was a really fat kid about 12 i guess running around in just trunks. it was obvious he didn't care about how he looked. so it's all a mindset thing i guess. i'm a small pale stick, but i don't care. if others do that's their problem for being busybodies.
