View Full Version : Fainting at Sight of Blood

The one thing that has always bothered me is that when I cut I am unable to cut deep enough to see blood because I faint at the sight of it. When I do cut I want to see blood and it has started to make me feel like a failure almost because I am unable to bleed without fainting. I know it may seem stupid I would want to bleed or that I would feel like a failure because I can’t. When I do cut I normally use a small saw blade on a Swiss army knife; the reason I do this is because it somewhat satisfies my urge to cut, but doesn’t break the skin usually. Does anyone else have this issue with blood? Or feel this way?

Your fear of blood is a good reason to stop cutting. Cutting doesn't help anything. It's a short term solution for a long term issue. When to get the urge to cut just try really hard to do something else. Try wearing a rubber band around your wrists and everytime you get the urge to cut flick yourself with it.

This is what I have to do.
Which gave me horrendous welts one day, but that's better than the burn scar caused months ago that is still there as a vivid reminder of one stupid mistake.
Rubber band welts will heal, they will not make you pass out. Cutting yourself is not a good option.

the fainting is a good thing because it keeps you from harming yourself. cutting deep enough to draw blood is very risky and you could end up seriously injuring yourself.
the rubber band is a good idea.

I'm the same as you, I also faint at the sight of blood so I don't usually do it very deep, I did once and I fainted, but like you it feels as though I'm incapable of it! I know it's easy for other people to say, just stop then, but it's not that easy!
