Its a sexual preference isnt it? where you dress up in big mascot-like costumes of furry animals and socialize.

I dont really care. I'm not one, but I dont give a crap what you do for kicks.

I could understand role-playing, like wearing a sort of costume and being a different person for the night or whatever, but wearing a huge costume like that would ruin it for me I'd think.

It is not a sexual prefrence! It is a hobby. There is non-yiffy (Yiff=sex) and yiffy furries.

From Wikipedia's Furry Fandom article:

Furry fandom is a fandom distinguished by its enjoyment of anthropomorphic animal characters. Examples of anthropomorphism in furry fandom include the attribution of human intelligence, facial expressions, anatomy, speech, bipedalism, and clothing to otherwise animal characters. Members of this subculture are sometimes known as furry fans, furries, or simply furs.

Art and entertainment celebrated by furry fandom include fictional work that employs the concept of animal characters with human characteristics, rather than any particular type of fiction. For this reason, any work, in any medium, may be considered part of the furry genre simply by inclusion of an anthropomorphized animal character, although such characters are most often seen in comics, cartoons, animated films, allegorical novels, and video games. The science fiction and fantasy genres make frequent use of anthropomorphism, and as a result, are especially popular in furry fandom.[citation needed]

Since the 1980s, the term furries has come to refer to anthropomorphic animal characters. Although mammals are the most common, anthropomorphized reptiles, birds or aquatic animals may also be known as furries (sometimes "scalies", "avians", or "aquatics", respectively).

also we are usally looked down upon because the media talks about yiff and makes us sounds like old men in mascot costumes and raping chlidren. The media is slowly turning a new leaf though.

3. cool facts about furries:

1. Britain has the most furry tolerant citizens
2. U.S. has most furries
3. We have huge conventions.

That should take care of some things

Eh, not into it myself, but I do know some people who are. It's a personal preference, and as long as someone doesn't force me into trying/looking at it, I'm not going to complain.
Whatever blows your hair back. :P (Wow ... no pun intended.)
