A Dem politican in California decided it was a good idead to send out potholders to women voters. State Assembly candidate Darrell Fong and his wife sent out polholders to Sacramento voters this week and many did not like the inference.
Buzzini got one of the potholders Wednesday at the home she shares with her husband and her sister. The envelope was only addressed to the women of the household.
“I think if it had been a refrigerator magnet and the letter had been addressed to both my husband and I, like we got from other candidates, I would have felt differently,” Buzzini said. She told FOX40 she feels the gesture was “absolutely” sexist.
Fong claims that the potholders were not meant to be offensive.
“Not meant to be demeaning to anybody. I use them when I’m at home so I don’t burn myself,” he said. Fong added that he can’t please everyone.
The accompanying letter warns against “Dark Money,” or campaign funds that aren’t properly disclosed to the public.
Possible sensitivity missteps aside, Fong’s campaign has filed a Fair Political Practices Commission complaint against his District 9 opponent Jim Cooper over campaign contributions that were allegedly improperly disclosed.
This isn't the first time a Dem has sent out potholders to women voters. A letter from a voter in Hollywood references a similar incident:
Have you seen the ``special gifts`` being mailed to the women of South Florida by (District 20 Democratic) congressional candidate Peter Deutsch?
Potholders!
What exactly is Deutsch trying to say? Sending potholders to female constituents is not only degrading, but it sends a scary message of just how Deutsch perceives the role of women in today`s society.
What do you expect us to say? ``How nice; now I`ll definitely vote for that sweet boy because he sent me something so valuable,`` and then call our husbands and children to the dinner table?
I am truly offended. If this is how Deutsch chooses to waste his campaign contributions, imagine the ways he could waste America`s dollars if elected!
Deutsch`s ``gift`` shows a blatant disregard for the concerns of all voters.
