Does anyone else agree that there is never really a thing such as true democracy? That, no matter what, there are always some elements of corruption and inequality in every democratic government in the world? Do any of you ever believe that we can vote in annual elections or referendums just for the government to enable us to believe we have some say when really they are just attempting to keep us satisfied and have things the way they wish?

No, I don't really believe that democracy exists. (In most countries at least) You only get to chose between the lesser of the two evils, which is hardly a choice at all. As an Australian, the major parties both have policies that I vehemently despise (such as the illegal detention of asylum seekers), but the Labour party has less policies that I absolutely hate than the Liberal party.

Yea, I totally agree. If 'democracy' means having things the way they are than God knows what then I suppose it is the lesser of two evils

democracy is retarded anyway.
Impractical. We should have a 'Father Knows Best State' where one man should rule. Essentially a benevolent dictator.

There isn't, but the same goes for all forms of government. Humans are greedy, jealous, and backstabbing. Nothing will ever change that.

And you accused libertarians of just being edgy teenagers who want to sound cool.

well let's see, skepticism of democracy is based on historical facts about the negative effects of democracy compared to previous forms of government, i.e. monarchy. the whole cause and effect thing. empirical stuff. of course literally everybody is raised to believe that democracy is THE WAY and never to be blasphemed, so most of its flaws are ignored even as they worsen. how is this edgy?
I mean on the other hand, :metal: RON PAUL 2420 :metal: is just something summed up as "gimmie money," right? what exactly is there to debate? look how little I care about everyone. this libertarian stuff is so edgy I have to wear armor when I'm nearby.
p.s. my friend, this is a 100% serious and not a troll post, upon my honor.

I no longer subscribe to the libertarian ideology. When I did it was because of the civil ACLU style issues, I was just going along with the economic stuff. I still consider myself a civil libertarian, vehemently opposed to the NSA, hate speech laws, censorship, and of course, a gigantic George Orwell fan.
How then would you propose the government be run? I mean aside from not allowing women to vote of course.

Yea, that's a really good point. Despite any technological or scientific developments, us humans will always have the same weaknesses

I agree, I don't think any country that says it runs democracy, actually does, and democracy in practise hasn't happened

No. Direct Democracy (in the context of a socialist setting) is totally possible.
That's not to say it's desirable on any sort of large scale.
That, no matter what, there are always some elements of corruption and inequality in every democratic government in the world ...
... in a capitalist setting.
In a (localised) socialist setting there's a chance that representative democracy might work as envisioned.

Yes.
Look at the Lisbon treaty if you want an example of what happens when we don't vote their way.
