So, flying cars. They're fully street legal, they fit in an average sized garage, they use normal, everyday gasoline, and they transition from car to airplane in under 5 minutes.

What? Why? This isn't a prank thread. Street legal flying cars exist. Let me repeat myself.
Street legal flying cars exist.

How is everyone not as excited about this as I am?
Flying. Fucking. CAAARRSSS!!!!! :D :D :D
Seriously, the apathetic responses some people give me when told about this are just incomprehensible to me.
FLYING CARS! This is huge! This is fucking amazing! Stand up and start dancing and screaming with joy like I did!

It's an airplane that drives that costs 2 million dollars (probably).
As much as I think it's awesome, it's not realistic.

It is NOT just a driving airplane. It costs 250,000$(right now), it's fully street legal, it uses regular gasoline, it converts in 60 seconds, and it fits in a normal sized garage. Sure, right now you need a pilots license to use one but that doesn't mean it'll always be that way. And have you even seen the second model? It looks much cooler. No wings. It just amazes me how you can look at this and not immediately see the potential and start jumping for joy and getting giddy with awe.

I want to see one flying down the Vegas Strip, which already looks like Blade Runner (minus any rain) with it's gigantic LED billboards.

To be honest flying cars aren't that realistic especially in cities with tall buildings and almost no straight, long roads.

This.
Flying cars are not the future. There's no way to traffic flying cars. There would be even more deaths and accidents than there are now if flying cars are commercialized for everyone.
Self-driving cars and electric cars (http://theoatmeal.com/comics/tesla_model_s) are the future. Safety is improved tremendously by eliminating the "human element" factor, environmental friendliness would be at an all-time high, and traffic isn't impossible using these models to create a future car. On top of all that, you can collect solar energy (http://www.solarroadways.com/intro.shtml) while you drive.
Sorry, but flying cars are totally inefficient and impractical for personal, everyday use.

For 250,000 I could buy a house and a good regular car. A plane/car for that much just isn't practical. I bet its a gas guzzler.

So far what I've seen of it it's just a really small airplane with wings that can be put into the thing so it looks a little like a car...
I expected more

None of you DREAMKILLERS are seeing the big picture. Sure, maybe now flying cars aren't all that practical, but you know what? Neither was the first airplane. And now look where we are! You say that electronic, self driving cars are the future but what about an electronic, self driving flying car? Is it really that far fetched? No, it isn't.
Give me one good reason why with plenty of time, money, and research someday practical flying cars that don't need a runway to land or take off can't be a reality.

I quite like the idea - yes there would be initial traffic and safety issues, but there always is at the beginning .Once they've sorted them issues out then i'm sure it'd work out. There will always be human error ,thats why people like the idea of self driven vehicles, but then what worries me is the computer system failing and causing mass disasters .The concept on its own of flying cars sounds pretty badass ,and from what I can see they look pretty cool.Of course I am no expert and know little about this ,but I'm open to ideas.

Okay, but when you need to travel a hundred miles or more and don't have the time or money to book a flight, don't expect me to help. :D

Well these are real, however not practical in the sense that you have to be rich to own one of these.

If you ask me, I do agree that flying cars are slightly pointless, if that makes sense. Sure, they could make getting from one place to another a lot quicker, but in city driving they would be completely pointless. Anyway, if you are only using these flying cars for getting from A to B quicker than a car, why not just buy a chopper? They fly, you don't need a runway of any sorts, and they are a LOT cheaper than these flying cars. Anyway, you still need a pilots license to fly a flying car, so why not be more practical and use that pilots license for a helicopter? I also think that self-driving cars are more the future of cars, and solar/hybrid cars. They need to do more research on these instead, I reckon.

Yes, but just think of the potential! Maybe one day in the future flying cars will be a lit cheaper. Maybe one day in the future you won't need a pilots license to operate one. Maybe one day in the future you won't need a runway. Maybe one day in the future they'll fly themselves, and be partially powered by wind and solar energy!

I agree. I can envision flying cars as a novelty "toy" for the rich, cruise around a 200 acre estate /ranch. Produced for the masses. I don't think so.
