Hello everybody! In September I'll be having my 14 birthday. When I'm 14, I can get a driving license for motorbikes up to 50 cc. I'm thinking of saving up some money for an Aprilia RS 50, and convince my parents. I'm completely against scooters. I was also thinking of an enduro bike, but I'm drifting towards the Aprilia for now. Can anybody give me a small review? Just simple pros and cons. Right now I have a 110 cc DB pit bike, while my father has an KTM 125 EXC, but he's looking to invest in a bigger enduro - touring type of bike. I'm not sure if it will be easy convincing him to buy a supermoto not an enduro.

I've had some experience with that bike, I don't reccomed it at all. Nothing personal against it or the company. But the one I tried was total crap. The ride was terrible, it was too small and light for my likening, it didn't handle well, it was however, cheap to run :/
Make of that what you will. The one I tried was not mine but my friends and he didn't keep it in very good condition, for him it wasn't a main bike, just a spare on to have fun and muck around on so he didn't look after it like he did his CBR 125.
However the reviews do say they are fairly good provided you keep them in good nick.

Personally I would reccomend you buy something like a trials bike, a 50cc sport bike is far to heavy for the tiny little engine it has, it just can't handle itself. Have a look at trial bikes, they are much lighter so they don't struggle as much with only a 50cc engine.

Whatever you do, have fun and ride safe :)

I'm against 50ccs. I feel they're not worth it for 4 years time, they need maintenance, insurance, etc which is worth more than the bike itself, they're unsafe and slow, and convincing your parents for it is not worth the hassles it may bring.

You mentioned it's too light and small for You... well.. I'm 1 m and 55 cm tall right now and really light, by the time my birthday comes I'll hopefully be around 1 m and 62 cm... is the bike size ideal if I'm that big?

It'll be about right. some of my school mates ride scooters and one of them is 1.94m

I know, I was just comparing how a scooter is even smaller and the guys even taller. The thing that worries me is if you'll reach the ground fine.

Yea, that's the thing :|... YOLO, if guys can ride bicycles that are as high as 2 story buildings... I can ride a goddamn motorcycle which is a bit higher... only problem I may have is at red lights.. how will I stop and reach to the ground? Probably extreme tilt.. let's just hope it doesn't fall on me... that stuff can break ribs and stuff...

Let's do something. Measure the length of your leg. Ie the distance from the ground to your crotch. With that and the seat height you'll know if it'll fit you or not.

The length of my foot to my crotch is exactly 80 cm for now.. the seat height for the Aprilia is 81 cm stock... I can go up to 81 cm if I'm on the tip of my foot. Hopefully I'll grow longer and will have no problems with that.

50cc is such a small bike and with such a small engine on the road you are endangering yourself. People wont see you and you wont have the power to get out of certain situations i say wait a couple years because a 50cc is too small. In Canada when you turn 16 you can get your m1 or your permit and ride anything from a 50cc all the way up to a 1400cc but insurance is going to kill you. Ive ridden my buddies kawasaki zx6r and its stupid fast but sometimes having extra power is good with a 50cc you have next to nothing

Then that's fine! You can gain at least 2cm if you lean the bike, so that'll be perfectly fine :)

You can just put your foot down on the tip and you'll likely be fine. And depending on how litre you are it may not be as bad as it was for me.

But I still wouldn't reccomend a 50cc bike, they are very slow and I absolutely hate the sound of a 2 stroke, it is a 2 stroke correct?
The problem with a 50 is that they just lack npower, your looking at 5bhp? When you want to pull away from a light you really do have to scream the engine to get it moving. In fact you have to scream them all the time just to keep them moving at all. Also, if its your first road bike you may accidentally lie it down and destroy it, so consider that when buying a bike with that type of body, very easy to break.

Edit:
Also I said that you have to scream them all the time, well that means that that engine will need a lot of maintinence, you may have to change the hole piston and crank asembilly before the 4-5 years is up.

It isn't my first bike, I've had a 110 cc 4 stroke bike.. and I'm really light (33 kg) so the speed isn't a problem (Weight reduction, bro!). And if it gets the paint off... I don't really care, imo damaged bikes look cooler (only if it isn't a cheap chinese scooter). I do put a lot of care in my 110 cc bike, have had a lot of crashes but the paint isn't off anywhere. Anyways, I plan on doing some mods to make it faster anyways.

You likely know this, but if you simply rejet the engine and add a different exhaust you can add about 1bhp, also changing the gearing ratio on the srokets can help with speed, but be careful not to make it to difficult for the engine to pull away.

And since you like damaged bikes then cool, BTW, the type of bike your thinking of is called a "rat bike", they are purposefully designed to look run down and damaged because a lot of people like it, but usually they are in good mechanical condition,

And I much prefer a 4 stroke, easier to ride, less maintinence, less emmisions, more economical, cheaper, and they don't have a screamy sound.

But a 2 stroke 50 can't be too bad, although I would reccomend you wait till you can get a 125. But if you want a 50 till them its up to you buddy :)

Any way a, ride safe and have fun whatever you do :)
