View Full Version : Self Harm First Aid Kit?

Hi! I am new to the site, please don't judge me for being a noob >_<
Anyway, I have been self harming for at least a year now, and only recently got a first aid kit together. I keep mine hidden in a little cube shaped box in my closet. In it there are:
napkins
antiseptic spray
antibiotic ointment
rubbing alcohol
hand sanitizer
peroxide
paper tape
a small mint container (to store the razors)
scissors
an old shirt (used for bandaging).
I know you probably all just cringed about the shirt for a bandage, but I like using cloth because it doesn't get dried into the cuts like gauze. It is also hard for me to get actual bandages, because I do not have my license yet, and my mother loves to look at everything I buy. So I improvise. I do keep everything clean, though. I sterilize my razors and their container after each use with rubbing alcohol.
Do any of you guys keep first aid kits? I find that mine really helps to not leave any evidence of my self harm around, and that it makes bandaging a LOT easier for me.

I think it's a smart thing to have actually. The best thing you can do is keep safe. I don't keep one myself per se, but I've got whatever supplies I need around if necessary.
I also see nothing wrong with using an old shirt, as long as you're careful with it. You seem to be good with keeping things clean which is good. I do agree though, it's probably helpful in concealing it.

The only first aid I've ever had to do was a band-aid. I'll usually just wrap a paper towel around it and secure it with ponytail holder to keep blood from staining my clothes.

I don't cut but, know a few people that do. I think having a First aid kit around would be a good idea,

I did. I still do. It's the best thing you can do if you self harm.
I keep scissors, alcohol , silk tape and triple antibiotic ointment. And tissues and bandaging supplies.
That's the best thing you can do. I have been lucky enouh to stop but i keep the kit anyway.

When i used to cut, i used the large first aid kit we have at home. i get a lot of unintentional cuts and scrapes because of my neurological problems making me clumsy and also screw up on applying bandages and can go through 2 or 3 before i get it right, so no one ever questioned how much i used it.

Why would you need a first aid kit? I've been cutting and I don't understand why I would need one...

Why would you need a first aid kit? I've been cutting and I don't understand why I would need one...because in an emergancy like if u cut to deep or if u just needed to bandage something so that it doesnt get infected its importand that u get the materals u need as soon as possible

Just wanted to update this thread! I haven't posted in 5ever...
Anyway, I have started recovering and participating in the Butterfly Project and am almost a month clean! I still have my first aid kit, though it has changed since I last posted.
My kit now includes:
A pack of straight razors
Transpore (clear medical tape)
Square gauze pads
Bandaids
5 rolls of stretch gauze
Scissors
Rubbing alcohol
Q-Tips (for the rubbing alcohol)
Napkins (I usually sh in the tub so rarely use em)
And hand sanitizer
I had to buy a completely new kit from walgreens. After my last suicide attempt in december last year (cut a vein), all my stuff got taken away. But now I am trying to recover. You guys should too!

Can someone advise me on some things that are a good idea to use after self harming, because reading this i have noticed that i have definitely been lucky.
I have never cleaned my cuts other than licking my finget and rubbing them and the items i use arent great either (i wish i was allowed to say them on here because you would probably laugh at the ridiculousness)
So yeah, what should i put on after, my luck wont last forever?

I haven't cut in a few years now but when I did, I had a first aid kit that I kept. It had tissues, antiseptic wipes, plasters and bandages in it.

I always just try to keep everything clean with anti-septics and then cover the wounds with bandages. It's important to stop the blood whilst it is still bleeding because having dried blood in wounds is not good at all.

Well ive been very lucky not to get an infection then. Im going to sterilise what i use now just because im thinking an infection isnt great if youre trying to hide them

It really isn't, in the worst cases it can lead to loss of limbs.

I keep a few band-aids in my room but most of my first-aid stuff is in my bathroom cabinet. A kit definitely seems like a good idea.
