It doesn't kill you, it given brain damage is a conspiracy theory & it's used in medicine.
Do you reckon it should be illegal ? Why ? Why not?

It makes no sense that it's illegal, I live in the Netherlands and it's legal here.

Because in 1930 Harry J. Anslinger was appointed to be the first Chief of the newly created Federal Bureau of Narcotics or FBN. Many Americans were angry about the mass of immigration at the time and Anslinger gave them something to focus their anger on: Marijuana. In fact, mid 1930s he said: Reefer makes darkies think they’re as good as white men...There are 100,000 total marijuana smokers in the US, and most are Negroes, Hispanics, Filipinos and entertainers. Their Satanic music, jazz and swing, result from marijuana usage. This marijuana causes white women to seek sexual relations with Negroes, entertainers and any others....reason to outlaw marijuana is its effect on the degenerate races." Also, many other politicians like rich William Hearst who had a newspaper tycoon and so much interest in the timber industry. As hemp was going to replace timber as a material for paper, because hemp (make out of the stalk of cannabis sativa, used in rope and canvas) can make 4x as much paper from the same amount of material as timber can. Sorry for the long post.

Yeah, this basically. Racism, political agendas, and the logging industry.

Besides for economic gain, I still don't see the reason why cigarettes are legal, but I do enjoy a marlboro red 100 don't get me wrong. In a perfect world I wish weed could be swapped with cigarettes but that's not going to happen here in the US, ever :(

A lot of it's based on old laws like the paper industry and racism and all that.

It would take away from alcohol sales. And legalizing marijuana would bring hemp paper back(paper made from weed basically). Big chemical and paper industries back and pay for politicians so the politicians are in the pockets of the organizations. They don't want marijuana legalized because it'll cut into their profits.

Because people think that because it's somewhat tame, they can drive under the influence of pot. You can't safely do this! I think teens are the stupidest so they should just tax it a lot and make it so you have to be over 18 to buy it, use it, or possess it. Like they should do with smoking. We have a smoking pit outside my school and it gives me cancer (lolololol). All the future dropouts hang out there and smoke... What is the point of not selling smokes to kids if they are just going to use them anyway? It's better than nothing I guess...

Alright, I am a bit confused. Isn't smoking weed not harmful to the health at all? Like cigarette?

If someone smokes a big amount at the same time, it can be a serious health problem.
Why do people do it anyways?
I personally dont drink, or smoke anything, or even tried.
But all i know is people do it cause they want to escape reality, which in my opinion is not a good thing.
I come from the middle east, and now studying in Canada, when i got here i lived with a host family that told me that people will do it so i have to beware as its not really a good thing, but then again they also said its not bad, as its only grass (if was pure), but the general advice hit me. (plus, i'm not really a person who would want to do such stuff, i hate parties...that could tell you enough about me lol )
Basically it turned out that everyone did it here, even the international students like me.
Some even have an addiction to it, as they do after every class and every weekend.
I think it should be illegal as it can become a huge problem as in addiction, sure there is cigarettes, but i don't exactly know what to say to that.
But i do feel it will be legal in the near future, but meh, its not like i will want to go and do it if that happened either.

It certainly isn't good for your health but it's far better than cigarettes
marijuana doesn't have any of the cancer causing agents in it. That's why some recovering cancer patients get medicinal marijuana now!

No idea. But there is every reason to legalize it, such as 1) prisons would be less crowded and the money saved could go to another department, like fixing everything else wrong with America. 2) it has medicinal properties, like for cancer patients, people with anxiety disorders and it has even helped people with severe epilepsy, and many many more reasons.

Marijuana has put so many Americans in jail. We have 5% of the world's population yet 25% of the world's inmates. That's scary. After 1980 America cracked down on drugs, also we don't rehabilitate.

I believe the tobacco companies play a big part in it.

I don't think it should be illegal but if you do use it it has to be at home in a secure environment where nothing bad can happen

it would be nice if weed was decriminalized, yes. it's definitely the superior substance over tobacco. smoking tobacco makes me feel dizzy, nauseated and gives me a headache. after having tried both I don't know why anyone would prefer their Marlboros over a bowl of stank ass endo (fuck PhilipMorris, don't give them your money, kids.)
my state is getting ready to vote on whether to allow medical marijuana use like in Colorado. I don't expect it to pass but I'm sure it will when it's reintroduced in 5 years or so.

one of my paper works has something to do with weeds legalization.. its really tough to weigh things you know. some research shows really good outcome in terms of curing an illness as severe as cancer if marijuana is integrated into their treatment strategy.. on the other hand, it's not that easy to legalize it all at once because if it's used abusively, it will endanger the user as well as the people around him.
