OK, I'm 16 years old. 17 in July (2 months).
There is a girl I'm into, we see every now and then and get on like a house on fire. Honestly better than I get on with even my closest friend.
But my problem is, she's 18, is that just too big an age gap for me to even bother trying, or should I go for it?

It's only two year. I don't see why it should be that big of a deal.

Love doesn't know time. They have yet to meet. And you would you be to set that meeting in motion? I've heard of gaps of seven/eight/nine years, how 'bout that for a gap? Honestly, I was befuddled with a fourteen year-old when I was 11, that's larger than yours AND I was too young to know love yet. (Though I still miss Anke...) So why not? Go for it!!

My parents are practically that far apart. Go for it.
Now if she was like 24, i'd recommend against it but since she's only ~14 months older then it's fine IMO.

I don't think 2 years or less is at all too large. However, I don't know how this stuff works in the UK, but in the USA, someone who is underage can get into trouble with someone who is overage. I would look into the laws regarding this kind of relationship. She could get in trouble even if something was completely your fault.

When I saw the title I thought this was another 25 years older thing.......
2 years is OK and there's a 3-4 year age gap between my mum and dad

^This. Check your laws regarding this then if it's ok, there's no other reason to hold back.

Well with my parents there is a 3-4 year age gap. I don't reckon anything is wrong with it

2 years is not a big age gap. Especially at your age. I would say, unless there are other reasons to not do so, go for it! :D

Go for it! That's fine!
When I first saw this thread I thought she was gonna be like 13 lol. But 16 and 18 is perfectly fine.

It's no big age gap, but the thing is that girls usually prefer older guys, not even at the same age. However, "no guts, no glory"...

That's hardly an age gap at all, and if you both get on as much as you say you do, well, its got to be worth a try, or you may regret it if you do nothing, and that would hurt.
